I've actually done a great deal of analysis on this relatively recent trap explosion. I've come to the understanding that traps (primarily 2D) are synthetic prison gay.
The obsession mostly stems from otherwise emotionally weak or sexually curious men who like to remain in a state of dominance or submissiveness, and to see a trap getting fucked clearly shows a direct, sexual pecking order. The dominant male, who is almost assuredly fucking the trap, is typically portrayed as a generic self-insertable background character who could be anybody. But he is, in this case, dominant to his fellow man, which in turn is more masculine and powerful than simply having a submissive woman or girl begging for your dick.
The whole concept is mostly a subconscious power struggle which they consistently win in, because it's very uncommon for the trap to be the dominant one, unless it's towards another trap. Even with women present, the female is typically dominating the trap, or being serviced by the trap.
If you are sexually submissive, the trap in question is commonly what you wish to be. The one being taken advantage of and servicing someone bigger and stronger.
