But yeah he was very clever when it comes to fighting and training, that seems to have been toned down in Super.

They could have used that transformation sequence to make every single saiyan a super saiyan god this way. After goku becomes a super saiyan god, Swap him out for somebody else that was in the circle.Then the saiyans transfer their energy into the new saiyan in the middle.
