Watched this for the first time ever a few days ago.Originally I didn't want to watch it because /a/ kept telling me it was shitand the show had the most cancerous fanbase ever, plus every normie knows about it.
But then I watched LoGH last year and was completely blown away. Since then I noticed there is a lot of people who claim that Code Geass is similar to LoGH. There's also a lot of people who say that Code Geass is poor man's LoGH, but still, I wanted to give it a try. If it was at least half as good as LoGH then it's still great.
R1 was pretty okay, but R2 was completely fucking ridiculous.
The thing that annoyed me the most, and that was left unexplained is why did Lelouch never tell anyone that he isn't evil? Why did he never justify himself to the Black Knights? Why did he lie to Suzaku that he intentionally used his Geass on Euphy and ordered her to slaughter the Elevens? Did he want people to hate him? For what reason?
And that ending was the biggest garbage ever.

Because when the Black Knights turned on him he thought Nunnaly was dead, so he didn't care anymore. Then Rolo saved him and he was like "fuck it, let me at least get my revenge against my dad before I die." Because despite it being an accident he felt guilty about it and felt like he deserved Suzaku's hatred, basically. Similar to how Suzaku felt like he deserved to die for killing his father despite it clearly being the right call for a number of reasons- the whole thing with that bit was that Lelouch is like "I'm a horrible monster please hate me" and part of the reason why Suzaku sees through it is because he pulls the same shit.

Of course the creators said Lelouche died, that's because he did die. He had to die to become immortal, that's how it works. Remember how C2 became immortal? It's a process. Kill person who has Code, get "killed", now immortal. Lelouch killed his father who had Code, Lelouch now has Code but not activated, Lelouch gets killed by Suzaku, code activates and he is no longer "Lelouch" but reborn as R2 (hence the title of the second season). Plus all the other evidence pointing to him being alive, like the crane, C2's comments, etc.

It could go either way I think. The writers seem to pay attention to detail, so I don't think it's an accident that they left a path open for him to be alive. We can break down the points below:

Charles got his code from a dying VV, who we can assume wasn't willing to part with it, it makes sense that you can steal someone's code
There's also the name of the show being code geass, lelouch has both because he got them from different people. R2 being lelouch's initials and such.
I've heard there's official word that he dies in the end, but we also know that you need to die before you code activates.
I think it's really an open ending, but I like to think he lived because during the emperor stuff he changes his contract with CC to "smile" instead of "die", and she says at the end that geass doesn't isolate people, both points make sense if lelouch lives.
