If you want to watch UC in chronological order then Mobile Suit Gundam is not your first stop, IGLOO is.

For instance, the actions of the Earth Federation are baffling if you watch 0083 before Zeta.
But if you look at who's doing what in 0083 and what they are up to in Zeta you realize how the Titan's motivations and positions of power didn't just magically appear out of Tomino's asshole.
