Here's the thing while it is true that LL became much popular by the anime, it isn't going to inherently die without it. Love Live is primarily a music based franchise and they'll keep releasing CDs until it's no longer justifiable or in other words, the sales are too low to keep going.
Based on the current numbers, that isn't likely to happen for a long time. The current cds ship around an average over 30000, during the more obscure era, cd sales averaged around a few thousand.
Given the number of fans still buying LL cds, the company will find it's not justifiable to discontinue the franchise.

It is a music based franchise. The main item of release were CDs and they were releasing CDs well before there was a fully fledged anime. While yes the anime made it extremely popular and boosted the cd sales, the one thing that has not changed is that it's essentially a franchise meant to sell fictional characters whose seiyu both voice and sing as them.
True the bulk of the popularity comes from the anime but I think with a steady release of CDs they can retain an audience just as they retained and grew an audience in the past before the anime. After all, they are creating a product the fans want, the fans will buy and hence it will keep the franchise going.
As I mention above, the franchise will only be irrelevant when they completely stop releasing anything.

Emitsun even had a public live event where nothing happened (but it was shortened to 30 minutes when it was originally 90 minutes and there was a lot of security). No one is talking about it much anymore asides 2chan who is just memeing shit to high hell.
