The movies did a great job of contracting all the filler, and the ending was even better than the original. Though it does skip some memorable scenes.
KLK however was a wacktrain from halfway. Some decent scenes and animation, but gets ruined by the convoluted amount of plot twists they tried to pull.

I'll agree about the movies. KLK's story did kinda go a bit sideways after the halfway point, but I still enjoyed it more because of how good the characters were.
I could probably name pretty much every single character in KLK that has even a remote effect on the plot, and describe their character as well. Whereas with TTGL, I've got Kamina, Simon, Nia, Yoko.. and the blonde dude, the gay dude, the two muscle dudes, the two kids, and the pussy punk bitch.
I'm not saying TTGL was bad, I just think it gets more nostalgia points then people realize. A lot of the episodes that aren't integral to the story drag quite a bit. And, to my mind, even the weaker episodes of KLK were enjoyable in their own right. Not as much as the best ones, but definitely more than the weaker TTGLs.
