A completely nonsensical pissing away of all the potential built up in the first two. And yes, Rebuild took its time getting going, first one only varies slightly, but by the end of 2.22 the stage was set for things to get interesting in the final two and actually develop the characters and take the series in new directions, not necessarily better or worse but DIFFERENT from the series, which really should be what they're all about. What's the point of just retreading the same ground or making everything go backwards right? Surely nobody would be that retarded.

The fuck it did. Shinji put it all on the line and overcame himself for just one single girl. Asuka might have grown a mild crush but she had one on Kaji too and either way meant shit, she was just going to go the bro route and good for her. That'd have grown her a lot too. If Anno wanted to introduce some new challenge or drama fine, but it should have been something new that the characters as they had develop would naturally react to. Instead he went for Deus Ex Fagina by just having all the characters suddenly act in ways that made zero fucking sense and showed no reflection because MUH VISION. That's entirely backwards from how good storytelling is done.

No, but the point was that even in the original she's got a solid practical streak even with all the mental damage she's suffered. In 2.22 that side shows through more strongly and she's perfectly willing to go for solid friendship instead. There was no fucking harem going on, less then the series+D&R/EoE even.
