Most likely because he's dealing with a monster that seems to lack sapience. Also it would look cooler if he explain his sudden immunity and master plan. Overall, I really like how he used his abilities that isn't outside of what's established. I don't even think this last arc is particularly bad, it's just too long with too much time in between. There have been quite a few fun events, and the two chapters preceding this last one were both quite good.

Nikaido and Kaiman have been killing magic users with just knifes since chapter one.
Also not every magic user is at the level of En family members, and lot of the magic users were killed by Crosseyes Boss, which is why after he left they fell in decadence.
