Hey, feeding three people on one person's budget is pretty tough.
As you step into the grocery store, Beatrix lets go of Lise's hand, and her own swings limply to her side. She looks around.

She actually spoke a complete sentence. You and Lise glance at one another. Lise flashes you a smile that for the briefest of moments seems to shine brighter than a thousand suns. Then she turns to Beatrix.

You get Beatrix to push the cart, while you and Lise fill it according to the list. After one too many arguments over where to properly ditch a cart full of Swedish Fish and peach rings without arousing the ire of the grocery store clerks, you eventually managed to impress upon Lise the importance of buying actual good that can be used to make actual meals, instead of simply buying refined sugar. Eventually, such staples as whole wheat bread, peanut butter and jam, spaghetti and canned tomato sauce, and pork chops and chicken thighs fill the cart, along with one packet of peach rings and one packet of Swedish Fish. You lead the cart with one hand, as Beatrix is too distracted by the treasures it contains to really steer it. It's not much, but at least it's a start. You smile to yourself in relief, knowing that your "Bribe her with food" plan was effective.

I can't speak for anyone else, but to me she's just another iteration of every other female character Moffat's put in the show. Iris's written as this perfect, smart girl who occasionally has a negative comeback that catches the perfect human, but outside of that she's completely flat, boring and bland.
She's Setsuna F. Seiei without great action mecha scenes and breathtaking fights mecha scenes, that made Setsuna interesting. She's Yuki Nagato without the backwards timeline that made her interesting. She's Megatron without the historical setting that made her interesting. Not only that, but there's zero character development. You'd think during the events throughout of the revolution arc, she'd have changed as a character, but nothing has changed. She becomes a damsel in distress, and yet she's still undeveloped and flat as a character. In short, she's poorly written.

To be fair they were both gonna die in Stasi captivity anyway, and apparently they needed a new swallow so Lise was useful enough to keep around so at least one of them getting a new chance at a free life is better than if she refused. Its a tragic nightmare that she had to live with and obey her captors and tormentors. and even more so that due to the political climate at the time and that she took Beatrix's side which was fated to be the losing team she ends up killed by the one she saved and lived for all those years.

You are technically correct (the best kind of correct); the evacuation of France and West Germany was a mess, but that was inevitable because you are moving a hundred million people.
At that point, the value of holding the line was dubious anyway; weather or not the amount of territory is worthwhile given the length of front to hold, a lot of it on dangerously open ground.
However, it was still largely successful, in that most of the people and equipment made it off the continent; pic related. You'll note that the EU still exists as a functional entity; they're probably more significant than the USSR by 2000.

Lise pulled the trigger man, and she did so in every version of the story so far. I love her to death but shes a nutter. Theo wanted to believe in everyone and trusted Lise in a way he probably shouldn't have, he just couldn't know or didn't want to know that she was so far gone. The whole situation is fubar for everyone. I guess we'll see in martyrs if things could have turned out differently.

See, the anime makes it look like the DDR was holding the line just fine; you only get fairly minor insights into how bad the situation is, and they don't really become plot significant given how quickly the BETA became The Offscreen Menace.
In episode 1, an entire lTSF squadron gets wiped out during the laserjagd. This may not be a strong point either way (they're taking serious losses OR if they don't make a big deal, they can afford to lose them) until you consider that the 666th is an elite unit, and they are persistently under-strength. Nominal for a TSF squad is more or less universally 12 (3 flights of 4), but the 666th was at 9 before the ep 1 fight and had apparently been there long enough for Annette to get PSTD hypnosis therapy or whatnot, they lost Ingihild and were at 8, and only got up to 10 in the six weeks between the second battle and Operation Neptune because they found a replacement on their own and got sent a spy.
Given the importance of Neptune, the fact that they received no reinforcements from the NVA implies a shortage of TSFs and/or pilots.
Then you note how often the Infantry seem to be dying horribly, how terrible things were at Fort Kurt before it got overrun - they really aren't holding. They have a stable line, but it's completely dependent on fixed fortifications - making it brittle - and they're barely hold on there with heavy ongoing losses.
Really, at most they made the end come a bit faster, and the UrsulaPlan basically started a gradual evacuation immediately, alleviating the losses from the eventual fall of Europe. Conversely, the BeatoPlan would have bought a few more weeks, maybe a month or two at the outside, but would have done so at a massive human cost.
Or, think of it another way, at a massive cost in labor capacity and potential soldiers - and, really for not all that much benefit.
