because thats a box cutter and is more often thought of as a tool than other kinds of knives. And they are much easier to get, and keep around. If some one sees a school kid with a box cutter in their bag its fine, they probably use it for projects or something. Not as easy to pass with a folding knife, or a fixed blade.

They're also really fucking dangerous. My uncle teaches defense and control classes to french cops. One of his demonstration is cutting and stabbing of different weapons, usually featuring a big bowie knife, a switch blade and a box cutter. Now while the first two stab a lot better, in the hands of someone doing big flailing cuts, the box cutter is by far the most dangerous. I've seen him cut through a thick leather jacked and through meat and break the blade on bone in one swing. Nasty shit. Would not want that to happen to me.
