The animation is top notch, and it's beautiful. The setting is fun, a kind of meiji era steam powered one, and the characters aren't awful.
However, it has dumb things in it required to bring drama to the situation and these annoy the smarter watchers.
I predict this will be a runaway MAL/etc hit because they aren't smart enough to get annoyed by the dumb tropes

Well in the first episode a train filled with zombies explodes in the middle of town and they run around killing everyone. The MC gets bitten and has to hang himself so the infection doesn't reach his brain. He does survive though, he just has to hang himself long enough for the infection to disappear. So a bit darker than AoT maybe

Not like they don't have gunpowder. The suicide bag works with explosives, and the MC talks about explosives in his experimental gun. Or lack the ability to make early-20th century era rifles.
