The whole respawn things eliminates any form on tension or weight to combat and to top it off it isn't even funny like konosuba.

2. Konosuba has a subtle plot got traded off for short term entertainment. There was never a hook at the end of each episode.

I enjoy both for different reasons entirely
One show is a light-hearted comedy and the other is a horror/drama

I don't think I've ever sat through a show with more tedious dialogue than Re:Zero. The MC feels the urge to comment on every troupe that occurs in a vain attempt to make the series seem 'meta' and the girl from the first episode is just a constant stream of consciousness. It is mentally draining just listening to her. Everything she says could easily be conveyed in a third of the time if she was just more concise. I don't know if that's her gimmick or not but if it is it's a shitty gimmick in the same vain as Fi from Squidward sword.

But yeah, I can see where you're coming from. I don't hate Re:Zero, but Subaru really isn't endearing himself to me in any way. Being slow and naive is one thing, but the incessant author-ish meta way he comments on his situation like he's not actually in it ruins the scenario. I especially hate the exchanges that point out the characterization and personalities as if we're too dumb to get a feeling for the characters from what they do and say. Or maybe the author was really that lazy and incompetent.
But then again, the reason I like Konosuba is because I don't like this premise. Konosuba making fun of it and being both more cynical and more light-hearted is cathartic.
I genuinely liked this first episode and it is my predicted AOTS behind Jojo. Perhaps it's just because the first episode was 40 minutes long, or because I have a hard-on for plots like this.
That being said, what is translated? I don't care if I have to read the WN, LN, Mango, or the Deadsea Scrolls.

No I think and a lot of people think it's rather interesting from the get go. The 2nd Arc is decent enough it introduces more characters and gets some good character development. There was large support for it even before the 3rd Arc when things really kicked off. So with this being a little different I think people will be interested in seeing it and then really enjoy when the 3rd arc comes around. The first two arcs will probably be done in 10ish episodes. That leaves 15 for the 3rd arc which should be enough to get through everything.
