Lain's incoherence isn't coherent to the average watcher, that the reason I can't really see this shit. But the SEL's design is an artistical accomplishment

>>139765318
I wouldn't have finished it if Lain wasn't cute.
>>139765771
Shut up, you're not my real dad
>>139766384
Not trying to start an argument, but what was so hard to understand? What I took away from it was that the things humans do, the thoughts we have and the things we create aren't worth anything unless we share them with other humans, if something exists in a void it's like it doesn't exist at all.
That and it's immature to constantly hide yourself away from the real world, even though it can be scary going outside and interacting with the world and forging social links are what give life meaning. That is more subjective though, I never had a very good social life IRL and tend to try and fill that void online. So I don't know if that's something many other people would take away from it.
>>139765482
DO NOT SEXUALIZE THE LAIN
>>139766690
So much to discuss right here.
But let's get back to Lain and its meaning.
SEL is fully deconstructed, most of the time you wont find any obvious logical connection between two footages of a same episode notably because Lain is based on symbolism.
I'll keep it short, but for this reason, more than for the others anime, what you get from Lain is what you interpret of it.
What you think of it is not everything Lain has to offer (well at least IMO).
>>139767860
Yeah, I mean art is subjective so everyone will take away their own meaning from what they watch. I really don't think it's that hard to understand though, the plot flows along like any other show and you can follow it if you're paying attention. There weren't any points where episodes did not flow along logically.
I'm on episode 6. I don't have any idea of what's going on.

>>139772081
Some anon said in the last thread that posting lewd Lain should be automatic grounds for banning like with Yotsuba, and I couldn't agree more.
>>139769412
Just pay attention to all the weird things that are happening, don't try to construct a narrative out of it yet. It's not a story where everything is spelled out. They won't do the stuff all the shitty harem anime do where they flash back to a thought or scene from a previous episode to connect the dots for you, you might have to actively think about the clues that are being laid out for you.
There's an episode later on that dumps a bunch of exposition and the story makes more sense, but only if you have paid attention so far. In the mean time, "What's going on?" is part of the fun of the series.
>>139772605
This. You might even want to watch it one more time after you are done with it, that's what I did and everything made a lot more sense to me.
Anyways, the story is more straight forward than you think and full of red herrings, just try the ignore the super weird extra convoluted aspects of the story, that's probably what's confusing you, just focus on Lain and her interactions. Personally, Lain won me over the strong feels I got from it, especially in the last couple of episodes.

Part of me feels like Juri's character and her development was inspired by Lain. I mean, between her virtual surrogate, her self-wrought descent into a digital void, her naive type of care for others and desire to erase herself..
>>139779031
A reminder that she's still closely connected to her childhood and the world her family forged for her.
I guess you could say it's another symptom of autism that the child latches on to an inanimate object as a way of showing attachment to someone because they're not sure how to convey love.
So is she really autism?

Flatter than Lain?

Lain's not flat, she's introverted and acts like one. Then, when the wired and real life start coming together, her "wired" self, the personality that she'd take online without the stress of meeting people in person comes out, and she shows stress, anger, and determination. Juri and Reika were just generic school girls, Alice was okay.

>>139810703
She's not god though.
>>139797395
fat
>>139810861
At what point do you refer to a being as a god? Being able to alter reality, rewrite events, materialize herself in the future to talk to her friend who's all grown up and married, and generally do anything she wants is damn close to being a god.
The Wired was a mistake
>>139811033
She only has "powers" inside the Wired though.
The reason why she can do weird shit outside of it is because the Wired and the real world are merging together in the anime.
She's still not a goddess, she's just a protocol to interact with humanity.
>>139811175
>she's just a protocol to interact with humanity
You've bought into Eiri's lies. She's not a "goddess", but she's not a program. She's a splinter from the collective consciousness that Eiri gave a human body.
>>139811443
Dunno it's been a long time since I last watched it.
>>139811175
>she only has powers in the "Wired"
>she can alter the "Wired" which translate into the real world
>not a god
>>139811443
As far as I'm concerned, Lain is mai waifu, and doesn't need to be anything more or less.
>>139811728
>>she can alter the "Wired" which translate into the real world
The Wired is not the real world though.
The boundaries between both become increasingly diffuse as the show progresses, but that's still not god, she just happens to be somerthing like a super user of the Wired.
I think that saying she's a goddess is kinda missing a bit the point of her character, seeing how in the end shes still imperfect and still cares about her friend and how the main antagonist is precisely someone that buys into that idea and wants to become a god.
>>139811728
God or goddess connotates a creator or a deity to be worshipped, which Lain really isn't and doesn't want to be. She wants to be loved as a human and have friends.
"Make me sad. Make me mad. Make me feel alright."
>>139811098
no the wired keeps us from mistakes life is a mistake
Why did Lain's sister turn into a shitposting retard?
>>139812226
The Knights used her to spy on Lain and they fried her brain.
That's what people say, generally I couldn't care less about worst girl.
>>139811970
>>139812059
I think you're putting too much emphasis on "a god". When I say "a god" I mean a being far above what normal humans are capable of. Like time traveling, altering reality and rewriting events, being everywhere at once, yet nowhere at all. I don't mean God, the Creator.
>>139812305
That doesn't explain why there were two of her and one was a computer ghost and then she went crazy.
>>139812401
Yeah it does. The ghost one is her real self, that got trapped in the nethers and separated from her body, which was used by the Knights.
>>139812354
>Like time traveling, altering reality and rewriting events, being everywhere at once, yet nowhere at all. I don't mean God, the Creator.
But even then that's debatable.
The Wired is just a mass of information, when it merges with the real world people consciousness gets transformed into more information.
That means that the colloquial definitions of those concepts don't apply her.
To the Wired, time traveling is just going to watch past data, and altering reality/rewriting events is just rewriting that same data.
Practically is the same because that data is precisely the collective consciousness of the world, but conceptually it's not something very divine in my opinion.
I feel it's like saying a calculator is a god because it can do operations far above what normal humans are capable of doing, it's just what she does, it just happens that the shit she operates is the entire humanity.
>>139812582
Well I think it depends on your definition of a god then. If history is just information as humans see it, wouldn't rewriting the information that everyone sees, including their memories regarding it, essentially be rewriting history? Undoing the past?
If she can be the admin on all of humanity and all information regarding humanity, that's pretty godlike. She could erase people from existence, create new people, rewrite history, change events, even influence individual thought and feelings. I'd say she's more or less a god over everything on Earth.
I mean, she's basically a system admin of the world.
I dunno, like I said I think it depends on your definition of a god. If a being can alter reality to the extent Lain did multiple times, and even end the world if she desired, I'd call her a god.
Interesting thought came to mind though. Think of when people colonized space. As soon as they left Earth, Lain would cease to have power over them because they left the Earth's network which she controls. Neat concept.
