That's the thing. Physical. Most shinigami that are at level where thay can achieve Bankai, are at least competent at Kidō, and most of their Bankai is that magical stuff. Either summoning something (Kurotsuchi, Tōsen, Byakuya), amplifying their elemental power (Rukia, Yamamoto, Hitsugaya), or just doing weird shit in general (Kyōraku). Sometimes sword itself disappears, sometimes it stays behind unchanged, and just as often it transforms to be used as main means of fighting.
That being said, since most of "big stuff" around Bankai is caused by Kidō, and since both Zaraki and Ichigo absolutely suck at Kidō, in their cases Bankai has no fluff power, only sword to hit things with.

Well we know that Yhwach gets stronger when takes the soul pieces back. So it stands to reason, that he would get weaker, if he sends the soul pieces out. We also know that he created 26 Sternritter for this exact purpose. Ichibee didn't knew about the Almighty, despite having the information from Yamamoto's fight with him during the First Blood War. And we know, that Yhwach gets older the more powerful and eviler he becomes. OMZ, how he looked 1000 years ago is younger than how Yhwach looked in Bazz-B's flashback.

I think he had the Allmighty, i mean, you'd have to be stupid to willingly give away that power. We know from Toofsy that he had to keep his eyes closed until the 9 days of power ended because otherwise bad things would happen. So to me it's pretty hard to believe that he would give that power up, especially if he was going to war with Soul Society.
I think it's likely that he was weaker back then, but i'd assume he could still see into the future.

I think Yhwach planned to invade Soul Society once he got the Almighty back. It was most likely just a temporal loss. But Yamamoto invaded before that could happen and thus Yhwach lost. Would also be a nice callback to the first invasion. Yamamoto originally planned to strike first, but Yhwach made that plan naught.
