I'm honestly not sure how anyone can say Asterisk is "best" for any reason other than "I liked this girl best" or "I liked the plot formula in Asterisk more". From the standpoint of quality in Art Direction, Script, Themes, Setting and Character Growth it was far outshone by Rakudai, especially when you can break them down almost exactly episode by episode, side by side.

The thing about Japanese authors and publishers is that they stick to something that is familiar with them, as well as the audience they're aiming for. By being more experimental, they risk actually not being able to bring in readers due to "the readers not being able to relate". anti-magic has the best source material of the 3 as it's the only one to have a plot besides muh tournament or muh shitty romance/harem antics. however, it has a shit adaptation
asterisk has the best adaptation, but the source is average when it comes to characters and action. the tournament is muh but at least makes some sense.
rakudai's adaptation is only a step above anti-magics, and the source as a whole is ridiculous. from the shitty romance to the muh japan won ww2 timeline to jobbing of side characters who would make better MC's. the only saving grace was how the action looked, in spite of how brokenly hax and asspully every fight was. oh yeah and shark boy deserved to be in a better series.
