Was hellsing ultimate truly a good anime? Or was it kind of shit.
My opinions are:

Much needed improvement on the violence, follows more closely to the manga, awesome fight scenes, and an awesome soundtrack

Not nearly enough development on some characters, not enough backstory on anyone, in reference to the increase of violence it seems like the creators tried to out edge themselves, and too much "chibi" style animation.
What are your thoughts on the series?

You watch it for Gore and Alucard and Seras fucking things up that is it.
Its a Mindless fun show if action is what you what then action is what you get.
I'm on episode 3 and enjoying it, art and OST standing out. Liking the comedy and didn't expect it from a serious looking show on the surface. Every line Jouji Nakata delivers is great.

But the only good thing about the TV series was the opening. Everything else was forgettable. Ultimate has a good OST overall AND great ending songs.

Pretty much.
While you will never forget that you did watch Hellsing and characters like Alucard, etc. It felt pretty forgettable in general. I barely remember anything about the plot or characters. For example I know some guy threw cards, but except for that I don't know shit about his appearance or personality. I still enjoyed it while watching though.

Hellsing is a good franchise because it's not a show but a giant character profile of Alucard who is super interesting when you get past the OPness.
Like why he serve the megane even though there's absolutely no obligation besides "muh promise"? Thinking about stuff like that as you learn about him makes it fun.

Fan headcanon is that it's his wife that got killed hundreds of years prior.
Because at one point he did have a wife and child. The regular Alucard form is the form of his son and the bearded one is himself.
I rewatch at least once every year. Never gets old.

It's an edgy show done very well. You watch it for fun, hyped scenes, and vampires fucking everything up.
