As someone who finally cleared a terabyte of backlog I can say K-On is the single greatest anime of our time.

NNB, Aria, GochiUsa, KinMoza, Ichigo, Hidamari, Sora no Woto, etc are all fantastic but none invoke the same sense of magic as the Keions do.

I would give up FLCL S2 and the KinMoza + YYS OVAs to get another season or even an OVA of my beautiful Keions.

K-On! was my gateway into CGDCT. I watched and moderately enjoyed a couple others but K-On! was the one that truly showed me the appeal on the sub-genre.
Now I'll watch any SoL with cute girls.

With something like K-on the appeal grows stronger the further away from your own formative years you get.It triggers that bittersweet nostalgia of being young and carefree.

Has there been any official statement as to why K-On S3 never?

I mean the source material is there and K-On sold a shit ton, why not show us the Keions at college.
>>
>>139708764
>>139706834
Not really I avoided K-on for years and finally l watched last December and like you I thought it was overrated but at some point I fell in love with the show.

This is not the kind of show that gives you instant emotions or tries to make you like certain characters. For example in other shows one girl might be a bitch but in the obligatory character developments episode you learn thay she had a tragic past/heals wounded puppies in secret so you are pretty much forced to like her.

Buy in K-on the characters undergo small changes through the course of the story and if you like grow attached to characters is up not is up to you.

Henry V had his soldiers go into battle with drawings and paintings of beautiful women, birds, flowers, and little girls on the inside of their shields. The soldiers did this not because they were gay, but because they could look at something beautiful in the horror of battle to ease the weight of what they were experiencing. Being a man is a hard thing and working full-time, going to school and taking care of your shit is hard. Sometimes you just want to sit back and watch some stupid cute bullshit. It doesn't make you a pedo or a faggot. It just means you like cute things.

Critics who treat 'manly' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be manly themselves. To be concerned about being manly, to admire the manly because it is manly, to blush at the suspicion of being girly; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young boys ought to want to become men. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being manly is a mark of a lack of security in one's sexuality, as well as latent homosexuality. When I was seven, I watched Kiki's Delivery Service in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am 33 I watch K-ON openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of girliness and the desire to be manly.

That was probably the initial, "official" reason why, and by the time Love Story was released they already parted ways with Kadokawa.
Kyoani isn't the type to milk a franchise too much anyway.

I disagreed I am a new k-onfag and like many other people I am also hated the show when it aired 7 years ago but but now that we are older we give it a chance just to realize that we missed something amassing. Is funny that I had to swallow my own words and insults.

But K-on is not great because of some complex story or characters, no the beauty of the show is its simplicity and lighthearted tone.

K-On isn't a Kadokawa property. The 4-koma was published by Houbunsha. Along the Key VN adaptations, it was produced by Tokyo Broadcasting System, which acquired rights from the publishers. TBS was cut out similarly to Kadokawa as KyoAni got big enough to not need a middleman.

You've hit on one of the core traits of true SoL anime, especially Iyashikei: it's actually a dramatic form that emphasizes the slow passage of time and inevitability of change.
The characters triumph by transforming that loss into opportunities for compassion and personal growth.
