Konosuba appears more light hearted which is easier to enjoy and relax with. Grimgar turned me off from the deaths I read about in the threads.

Grimgar has several teenagers fighting and it examines what would happen in such a case: Glorification of the person holding them alive, in-fighting, false pride, stupid decision, overthinking, and inability to discuss loss and mistakes without tears and bitching. Why did the single death turn you off? It's what you would expect if you send children with swords into battle. It's not a glorification of them, the show is about how they deal with the sudden pressure.

Normal fantasy doesn't sell because otaku can't self-insert easily. I'm sure lots of people have played a video game and thought "I wish I had X ability or was Y character".
Video game settings limit you, and true fantasy settings tend to only attract the chuunibyou crowd, but mixing the two allows an author to make their own convenient rules and grabs a larger audience.
Chuu2 stuff can scare off readers if it gets too thick or stuck up its own ass, but explaining magic as a "skill" or "attack" in game terms people can understand more easily erases the stigma slightly.

On that note, I think it does a pretty good job of showing the characters grow and adapt to their shitty situation. A lot of the post death scenes show Haru acting like the new leader whether he notices or wants to. Buying the tombstone, refusing the gift, and his talks with ghost Manato show that he's come to understand that this world has one rule: Kill or be killed.
I find it hard to rate them above each other as I like them all for different reasons
