Yeah, I can understand why some people want to see Ash dropped, but if they were gonna drop him it would have been or have to have been done after the Kanto or Johto seasons. Way too late now, they just give him new companions as a compromise so things don't get too stale. Only reason Brock and Misty stayed for so long was because Kanto was incredibly shorter than people realize as they picked up the slack into GSC since the anime aired really close to gen II's debut. It would have been odd if they switched out anyone at that point really.

Ash has really changed a lot honestly, I don't think you've really watched anything recent at all. I've been watching reruns on TV and it's amazing how different his character is. He's gone from a cocky kid with above average battle skills who gets lucky to almost a mentor figure who actually uses strategy. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually wins the Kalos league or comes closer than he ever has to winning a league (save Orange Islands of course).

The 4th gen games introduced sexual dimorphism for some Pokemon species, and since then female Pikachu have had a small notch at the tip of their tails, making them have a sort of heart shape. This shit didn't exist for the first ten years of the franchise, but no big deal has been made about it one way or the other to my recollection.
