We normally have a case of quantity over quality nowadays.
In saying that though, Even back during Summer 2012 everyone said that season was shit.
Last season was honestly one of the better ones we've had, You're lucky if you get a single "memorable" anime per season.

I happen to keep a table over anime's first seasons that I have finished, which is a great way to see what season was the best.
As you all can see, the objectively best year for anime was 2011, while 2012 was pretty good too. Worst year in recent times was 2015.
(2007 has 8 anime I've finished, so that was also a pretty good year).
