Dragon Quest is made by a third party studio while Enix licenses it. The people who make Dragon Quest (Armor Project, Bird Studio and Koichi Sugiyama) are pretty much the longest running team in video games. Having worked on every Dragon Quest game made over the last 30 years. Even series like Mario and Zelda can't claim the same thing.
All that said, the producers of the series have little if anything to do with it being considered for the Olympics. My Eva comment was more of a joke pointing out how most olympic ceremonies just try to pander to what's popular. But Dragon Quest on the other hand has actually appeared at Japanese sporting events. They've replaced the fucking Japanese national anthem with the Dragon Quest overture at Football and Baseball games. Its that big over there.
