well honestly do all the characters need to be interesting? I think it's fine that Keiko was just a normal girl. There where already tons of interesting characters, no need to force the childhood friend/girlfriend to also be interesting. She was bland but sometimes it's good to have that bland character bring normalcy to the cast, I saw her role more as an anchor for Yusuke to retain his humanity and come back.
