Frankly it's easier, along with a lot of mangas derived from NEETs who don't do anything or people who went to art school.
For a slice of life, it's the easiest, most relatable anime topic one can cover. Everyone in Japan went to a similar highschool (and many Westerners too can relate in part) where as once you exit highschool, everyone ventures into different paths.
There's a reason the four big anime genres as of late (that stay grounded somewhat in reality) are Highschool/Teenage, MMORPG Immersion, NEET, and making manga or art.
Something manga writers should do is go on a biography route: either interview someone else in an aspect of Japanese society or shadow someone and self-insert. I myself am a writer and when I need to write on a certain subject, I go into it for a week or so.
Why most America comic is about capeman? And they recycled/reboot every 10 years. The Amazing Spiderman 2 is shit.
