Instead of just equating technology with color-coded magic and ignoring the intriguing premise, Accel World should have been about getting good at fighting vidya. MC must master juggling combos, frame counting, and character meta in order to charge up uses for his superpower.
Like what Spice & Wolf did with mercantile economics and Space Brothers did with JAXA/NASA info.instead we got instant secret technique power ups that make no internal sense and his robot avatar getting hungry and eating soup in the game... because he was tired... from training... by climbing a mountain in the game... so *fiercely* dumb.
Also, MC's friend's face-heel turn in the opening episodes results in him dying, a wake up call to MC that this shit is serious... not being forgiven for no reason and becoming a jobber.
