Yes, part 1 had better world buildup and had a sense of danger. Part 2, not so much just a cliche save the damsel in distress + incest.

It had horrible execution though and Kirito didn't even really belong in the arc (beyond maybe a supporting role). Sinon could've carried the arc on her own. Hell, she's the only actual character in the franchise (not counting the latest arc, which I only read the very beginning of before realizing there would be a dozen books of this shit).
ALO ripped off the Eclipse, but turned to complete good ending bullshit.
All of SAO is bad. First half is too much filler then final boss. Second half has a more coherent narrative but has too many trigger warnings like rape and incest.
I prefer the second half (picking poison here) because I prefer actual plot regardless of awful.

Then SAO2 GGO and Nordics sagas were very good but they dropped the ball again with the "lol cancer" episodes.
