Reminder that Mobile Suit Gundam is a real "deconstruction" of the mecha genre and it is a far more inspired work than Evangelion. Nothing done by Evangelion hasn't already been done better by other older mecha shows. The only reasons Evangelion became popular is because it panders more to pervert pedophiles (most anime fans) and philosofags (/r9k/ posters).

Or at least codifying it. Any Mobile suit with 'Gundam' in its name is going to kind of be a super robot, though the original One Year War was a LOT less egregious about it than, say, Wing or SEED.
