If you've read Sinbad no Bouken, Sinbad is a dick but he follows rules because he's a merchant. He'll find a way to twist the rules to his benefit but he'll follow it to the letter. He got outsmarted by Maader and became a slave/got mindbroken because it was part of the contract. Compare this to Alibaba who just asks for favors without regards to contracts.
