Why are japs so fucking obsessed with the Excalibur? Its not even a katana.

Magic swords have been a part of Japanese mythology for millennia. Of course they'd fixate on them.

Its like muh anime
>teenage boy finds magical sword that grants him mystical power
>with that power he forms an organization dedicated to fighting evil and fall in love with an waifu
King arthur is literally anime
>legendary sword of one of the most famous western legends
>sword that shone like the sun, and in some of the older stories even shot lasers, like some samurai cutting the air so fast the energy wave cuts something far away
Excalibur is to Japan what Ame no Murakumo is to weebs.
>>139566319
>ame no murakumo
nope
never heard of it
>>139566372
Weeb up, bro.
>>139566311
They even had an anime about it in the deep dark early '80s.
>>139566311
Chuuni. I love it.
>>139566311
he doesn't just find it
a mystical waifu gives it to him
>>139566547
Depends on the version you are basing it
Sword on the rock or lady of the lake?
The lady should be a loli
>>139566311
He gets the Sword in the Stone which makes him king. Later he gets Excalibur from the lady in the lake.
Excalibur is like the mid-season powerup, like the new power the MC gets at the end of a training arc.
>>139565663
>>139566209
Excalibur isn't even that good, the fucking scabbard had better powers than it did
And the Sword in the Stone was never even used, it's basically a paperweight
>>139566626
And then it gets thrown in the lake, because it's shit.
Joyeuse would be a much better meme sword for anime, it actually cut niggas.
>>139566212
Flamberge, Murasame, Kusanagi.
>they haven't read arthurian legends
what the fuck is wrong with you
>>139566699
MC being retarded about the scabbard because he thought scabbards were boring was a good plotline
>>139565799
Durendal is the gaijin masamune, it's literally described as the sharpest sword ever
>>139566372
Susanoo's sword that killed Orochi
Damn pity the Americans didn't start myths about having legendary guns. That would have been a nice change of pace.
So, why are Japs obsessed with Schrödinger's Cat?
>>139566813
cats are cute
>>139566212
There simply is no sword as famous as Excalibur, period. But you still got Durandal, Gram, Totsuka, Kusanagi, etc all over the place in anime.

>after shenanigans both of them fall in love
TIME SKIP
>the teenage boy is a now a king
>their kid becomes edgy as fuck and disappears
>the kid becomes an evil powerhouse and start challenging arthur
>knowing that he must stop his son and that his son is too powerful arthur seeks a power boost
>he stumbles upon a loli in a lake that grants him power to defeat his son, but she warns him he will die on the fight
>"It can't be helped"
>he goes off to fight his son
>after a shit ton of explosions and entire continents being blown off the fight ends
>arthur kills his son but is too wounded to keep living
>his waifu comes to his last moments
>"guinevere.."

So why is there no King Arthur anime yet?
>>139566699
Probably because the only japs that would know about the Joytoy are the ones who were good at FFXI.

>>139566787
Well we do have stories about guns of legendary figures, and reverence for certain models in general. It's just that they don't generally have names of renown with rare exceptions like Davy Crockett's "Old Betsy," Teddy Roosevelt's "Big Medicine," the Sundance Colt, Daniel Boone's Tick Licker, Buffalo Bill's "Lucretia Borgia."
To that end, there is quite the replica industry/market.
>>139566898
Here I'll fix it since Erased was so popular
>Teenage boy meets a handsome kid with superior sword skills

Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony. You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you. If I went 'round saying I was Emperor, just because some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away.

Japanese only care about guns in relation to Nobunaga Oda. Since Americans used completely different guns it wouldn't fit.
>>139565663
It's the inspiration for the katana.
Everyone knows Joseph of Aramathea actually hid the Holy Grail in Japan and entrusted the Lady of the Lake to guard it with Excalibur. That's right. The Grail was actually in Japan all this time, not England.

>>139574736
They put avacado on everything too?
>>139565663
>>139565663
It's really simple, anon.
1. They fucking love swords. You know how some Americans don't just use guns but fucking LOVE them, where they'll have waifu wars over which guns are the best guns act like their guns are the embodiment of their manhood and strength? A lot of Japanese are like that over swords.
2. The especially fucking love swords that are special. Magic holy swords and famous historical swords and swords that represent the authority of the king. The more of those boxes you check off, the more they fucking love it.
3. Foreign Things Are Cool. This one's a universal rule. Local stuff, it's boring and familiar and not at all special. But foreign stuff? It's exotic, and mysterious, and unlike those rusty lumps in the museum you went to on a school trip you could maybe believe they're magical.
So put that all together. Excalibur is a magic holy sword of the king, just like Kusanagi, only it's foreign which makes it more special except not TOO foreign so all your viewers know what it is without you having to explain.
Excalibur is the most famous sword in the world, bar none. Durandal? Gram? Laevatein? Kusanagi?
Come on, don't kid yourself. Excalibur THE sword.
They wanted a western sword to appeal to an international audience. Excalibur is used often because, let's face it...international audiences are dumb. If they named it Caladbolg or Hrunting, international audiences would be like "err derp derp derp," then pause and go wiki them.
