Fucking loved it. The "filler" episodes got really repetitive and annoying but apart from those I enjoyed. Really liked that episode about those people trying to commit suicide
>>139514014
Pure fucking garbage. Only pretentious dickheads unironically enjoyed it.
>>139514251
Same. On episode 10 and so far my favorite episode is when the fat guy captured the fake Shonen Bat, also the Taeko episode.
>>139514014
Awful.
>>139514398
The whole psychological thing the show has going on is really good. Episode 8 and 10 are good examples of what I mean. Eps 9 and 11 were pretty trashy tho
>>139514251
This. That suicide episode was something else. But all in all Paranoia Agent was great.
>>139514014
Still better than Paprika.
The premise was simple but played well overall
I hated the RPG shit episodes though
Garbage. So pretentious and "artistic" that it forgoes coherent plot.
>>139514014
I enjoyed it, but thought the supernatural stuff at the end was too out of place. Would probably be one of my favorites if it weren't for that.
>>139515173
The supernatural stuff is there from ep1.
>>139515157
What was incoherent about the plot?
>>139515224
Technically this seeing at the end it all loops back to the start
>>139515224
Symbolic =/= Supernatural
Not that anon but the ghost stuff did feel out of place unless it wasn't actually supernatural but instead just something abstract that went over my head
>>139515143
Literally skipped 3/4ths of that episode. Was boring as fuck.
>>139515230
Literally everything past the bat kid being a myth.
>>139515224
Supernatural was the wrong word, because it was there from episode. I do think it was blasted waay too far out of proportion at the end though. Most of the show had a realistic supernatural element to it, whereas iirc like half of the country is literally destroyed at the end for whatever reason.
>>139515407
>a realistic supernatural element
>>139515479
As in, you know its supernatural but it's integrated so well into the story that you just see it as part of the world. I can't fucking articulate worth shit tonight, sorry.

It had a lot of potential, but failed to use it. The series would have been fucking amazing if they managed to make everything tie in together for a grand finale, but instead the whole things is just derailed, and the ending was disappointing. There was a lot of cool and freaky concepts and animation designs that kicked ass, butt overall the whole thing failed to live up to its potential
>>139515771
I think the show did exactly what it was set up to do and tied everything together in a grand finale.
It completely lived up to its potential.
>Paranoia agent in a nutshell.
>>139515540
Everything. The most I still remember is the kid that studied too hard and words started falling out of him... Then he was killed by the bat kid
That had nothing to do with the plot and totally didn't make sense in any aspect beyond being a made up story within the show.
>>139516211
>beyond being a made up story within the show.
So you're saying it made sense then.
Repetitively obnoxious way of saying "You're not living your life correctly", but still a great ride.
>>139515555
Goddammit.
>>139516211
Not him but that was pretty relevant to every other victim in the show.
>>139516257
But it didn't. Because everything was made up past the dog getting hit by a car. So everything was pointless and incohesive so it could be autisticly artistic.
>>139515049
This.
>>139516345
>Because everything was made up past the dog getting hit by a car.
Not at all.
But the story about the kid with words falling out of him was in an episode about housewives sharing completely made up stories.
You said it yourself, that's why it makes sense.
Lots of cool ideas even if I wasn't really satisfied with it overall. Fantastic OP.
Why are all laughing at the viewer in the OP?
Awful after ep4
>>139517355
Because you're wasting your time watching that shit.
>>139514014
Actually it reminds me of Tatami Galaxy, in that it suffers from the same major flaw. That flaw is that it's a very theme-driven show which uses an entire season to illustrate and explore one really simple major theme. In the case of Paranoia Agent, that theme is that we're better off just taking responsibility for our actions. The problem is that it's too on the nose to justify devoting an entire season to it. Like halfway through you say to yourself "hey, I get it," but you've still got to wait for the show to wrap up its whole spiel.
It was definitely more of an issue in Tatami than it was in Paranoia, and Paranoia had more varied stories and characters. 7/10
Best anime op in my opinion

Hey /a/, /v/ here.
I really liked this, got any recommendations to similar shows or shows with similar themes or atmosphere?

You should try Boku no Pico, it's an underrated gem.

Really good OST:

Like most of Satoshi Kon stuff, amazing animation and music, really good premise, great cinematography, but something was missing in the story department.
>>139525099
His earlier stuff like Perfect Blue were top notch, but I feel he didn't tie everything together perfectly in Paprika and Paranoa.
Hacks from Hollywood love to copy the guy and make much more money than him.
>>139525446
Ehhhh, Perfect Blue was a little wonky in the story department as well. Like this dude >>139525099 says, it was incredibly creative, unique, beautiful, important, inspirational, and well crafted, but the story doesn't quite stand up to scrutiny. People like different Kon vehicles, but the one that's the most difficult to critique is Millenium Actress. It's almost perfect. And if you count Magnetic Rose (you should), then Magnetic Rose actually is perfect.

it's every frame a painting...

It's a easy way to explain him though.
>>139527735
Kay. I don't see how it's relevant to the posts you quoted. But whatev.
>>139527931
Lots of his stories are explained in his editing, Not his fault you can't comprehend it.
>>139527948
Did you just "too deep for you?" me bro? The manager's actions and motivations didn't make sense and were contradictory to her character. If the problem were the manner in which Kon tells his story through editing, then it wouldn't be so specific to Perfect Blue.
Lots of fedora wearing armchair critics in this thread...
