We know how Kazusa gradually fell for Haruki, but when did Haruki start having romantic feelings for Kazusa? It seemed like he was friendzoning her pretty hard here.

I don't think there's any way to argue that Setsuna wasn't wrong.
She knew that Haruki and Kazusa loved each other and specifically tried to prevent them from figuring that out and then proceeded to flaunt her relationship and to make things worse tried to guilt trip them both when they finally embraced each other.
She was dealt a losing hand from the very start but she just had to try and bring everyone else down with her.
The only saving grace is that Setsuna acknowledged how wrong she was and never resisted her retribution.

Well yeah but the player could also choose to exit the game any time and consider it an ending to the game. There is however a true ending in the sense that it's one that has all the clear marking of being the author's intended destination for the story. Kazusa's route was the one the story was built around, everything else was simply things being branched off for the sake of creating a broader experience that encourages multiple playthroughs.

I think I feel *less* alive, since it's made me question my life with a bleak eye, and not find clear answers on what joy I can look forward to, nor how I should fix that. So, why is it that Kazusa and Haruki were so fiercely in love in with each other?
They seem like very different kinds of people. Haruki and Setsuna on paper seemed like they would have made the better couple but for some reason the connection they had just couldn't even compare.
Is it possible that the author believed that strong relationships require people who meet very specific thresholds of similarities and differences?
At the age Haruki was at the end of the story he should have been fully matured, so any hormonal influenced feelings should have been under control. Even then, his feelings for Kazusa and her feelings for him returned stronger than ever before.
Perhaps I'm over analyzing it but it's really all quite remarkable and it's interesting to think about.
