It really isn't though. His childhood arc isn't bad, but it isn't bad because its erratically written - which is accurate for childhood.

As he gets older the story just doesn't hold up, character progression is not great, etc.

Well his other works aren't prime examples of writing also, what he's good at is evoking emotions, and punpun does it efficiently for two thirds of its lenght
