I will experience no greater disappointment than reading through the light novels and finding out the author died. I had initially seen the anime when it got released and really liked it, but dropped it the further into Season 3 I got. On a whim I picked up the LNs years later and fell in love with the characters. Saito was a fish-out-of-water hero who learns who and what are important to him and Louise develops a soft side that is still tempered by her fiery personality. It had so much potential.
Last I checked, the series had been halted due to the author's death. Does anyone know if they're pulling a Robert Jordan on it and having someone else finish? Didn't the author leave notes behind for a basically finished story?
