They try to live without contacts to outside society, disappointed in it - but harshness of the live in abandoned mountain village makes people give up one after one and move out. The remainder are slowly become disappointed with the idea of their cult like establishment - we deal with Lost like flash backs of their lives before and why they came here.
The most hardcore in the end form a kind of "suicide pact" to remain here until the end, since unlike others they feel they dont have place to "return back". Those people discover the history of the village - that there before was a commune or japanese communists that were believing could build a perfect society outside of currupt japanese one.
