Dogakobo was doing great for several years then just hit a brick wall with that gay as shit period piece they did about the 3 brothers. Never recovered.
Nothing has really displaced Shaft despite how lazy they've gotten. Who're their main competition right now even? KyoAni who do like 2 shows a year and haven't had a hit since Free, which was also just a brief fad? A1 and their soulless adaptations of LNs and manga? SAO definitely has a lot of pull but it fades in and out of style between seasons. Trigger? They're the new kid on the block but they've got a divisive reputation and their biggest hit still couldn't dent Shaft's cash cows. Maybe Ufotable? They just do video game adaptations and whatever else Aniplex tells them to, basically like a more niche Shaft.
So I think we're still in the era of Shaft, but it'll be known as "Later Shaft Period" and be known as a creative slump for the industry.
2011-2016 is the Dark Ages.
2016-forever will be the DEEN Era.
