Was still pretty, and a decent character story.
I do think though that stories with romance in them tend to lead away from OTP due to shock value nowadays. Which I don't like as well.

The movie spends time developing MC and main boy's relationship and it turns the guy was still in love with his ex-girlfriend after MC confessed to him.
Another guy that didn't show any interest in her then decides confess to her in the end. The other guy isn't bad but they didn't develop their relationship enough. I would rather left left this part out and just hint that they might progress in their friendship in future instead.

Eh, I thought it was alright. Highschool romance in the real world is a fickle, short-lived thing after all.
My favorite part was my own personal schadenfreude at the mother when she realized that the entire play was actually about the psychological drama her and her piece of shit ex-husband inflicted on their daughter, by assigning her the blame for their own fuckups. So often these stories end with reconnection and forgiveness of parent and child, and I was actually kind of glad that part, at least, wasn't just magically resolved.
Also jock was a better man to begin with, and Naruse will look back on this time and be thankful she didn't end up with the beta manlet.

I feel like Jock just decided "Hey, fuck it. If main boy isn't going to date her then I'll take a chance and ask her out instead." He saw almost all the same shit that everyone else involved did, and Naruse personally spoke up in his defense in the restaurant.
Are they OTP for all time? Naw, they're just kids, really, but I feel like even if Naruse turns him down they'd still be close. To be honest, some genuine affection directed to her, instead of Beta McManlet's wishy-washy platonic support, would probably help with her self-confidence, even if she doesn't return his feelings. The knowledge that somebody finds her attractive and wants to be in a relationship with her, even if it isn't the guy she was so infatuated with, would ultimately be good for her.

Takumi and Nitou had sexual tension every scene they are together. Hell, the time he started yelling at baseball guy in class the film tells us it was to impress cheerleader. I wasn't expecting him to fall for Naruse at all with how hung up the two were for each other.
And after what Naruse pulled near the end by bailing on them I don't think he was feeling enamored.
Since it's a highschool drama I think it's good the pairs are as they were. It's a sort of bitter-sweetness just like Naruse's story. Plus baseball dude is a good guy as well.
This thread got me intrigued. Since the story is obviously bad is the storytelling at least good or are you guys not exaggerating?
