I think it's difficult to mess this one up compared to LB and Charlotte and other titles. Unlike most of Key's works Planetarian is a lot smaller in scale and doesn't try to do many things, plus it has the linear storyline going for it unlike the route and true route fuckery in Clannad and LB.
One of the most important aspects is the art and how the setting is portrayed and the art in the PV nailed that perfectly so it shouldn't be an issue.
It does have fantastic music.
The real question is, will they end it where the VN ended or will they also include what was in the depressing drama CD?

The line art doesn''t look like KyoAni's, the animation is far worse than KyoAni's, the detail is a lot less than KyoAni's standard, and to be honest the coloring isn't even that similar. I'd say something like Satelight or even White Fox. Hell it could even be TROYCA. Actually I'll be surprised if it's not one of those three or A-1. One thing's for sure, that's not KyoAni.

It's probably Ufotable. Planetarian doesn't need KyoAni-tier animation anyway, the only two characters are a hard-assed junker and a static robot girl. What's more important is how the environment, art and colors are depicted and the PV looks promising in that regard.
It's not to say Planetarian wouldn't benefit from KyoAni's techniques, but I wish people wouldn't put them on such a pedestal that every other animator choice somehow becomes second rate.
Best format IMO is

-an OVA for the Drama CD epilogue

What actually happens is that companies announce things that they're either already working on, or things that they are in the planning. consideration stages for during april fools in order to judge reactions and build hype.
That way, when they make the real, official announcement, everybody praises them for making april fools dreams into reality. Often a dream they didn't even think to want until the april fools announcement put the idea in their head. It also gives them a good idea of whether or not fans actually want it and will receive it well. If the announcement passes with 0 interest or with outright disdain, they can just scrap the idea and work on something else because "april fools!"
Not to say that every announcement is like that, but the vast majority of the times an april fools announcement ends up being real, it's because it was planned from the start anyways, and its announcement on april 1st was just an attempt to evaluate interest and generate positive PR without any kind of risk.

The lack of filters and the shoddy lineart scream PA Works. Also the backgrounds are so so.
This just makes it so sad that KyoAni and Key have parted ways. I wish that they'd make up and do one last project which is a Planetarian movie. This is something I can see KyoAni pull off.
