I just finished it. How do I feel okay again?
Posting here was a good start, since it's popular it'll get hella criticism and then the magic will wear off.
Watch a SOL of cute girls doing cute things to cheer yourself up.

I'm not even sure if the ending was happy or not.
>>139372523
More of a "not everything's alright but we're gonna make it" ending. Maybe not happy but I think it ended positively.

Punpun quite literally kills the most honest part of himself so he can finally conform to a life of mediocrity and existential emptiness. He will probably end up like his uncle, in a dead-end marriage with a girl who pities him and a kid who'll remind him of his former self and make the same mistakes. I never understood how people can take that ending positively.

This, OP.

I thought his uncle turned out okay. His marriage is happy for better or worse.
Punpun feels far worse off by comparison.

>implying he won't get cucked by his own son eventually
You know it's bound to happen.
>Amazon just told me they are shipping the 3-1 omnibus
Anyone got it yet and willing to post pics of the blurb on the back and stuff?
>>139375321
I bought the first one. Not home at the moment. Sry, desu.
>>139375408
No problem then, how large is it? I'd imagine it would be quite big but not too large.
Also why are Amazon so horrible stocking manga lately? I pre-ordered Nichijou and it's already out of stock. I just hope I don't have to wait for more to come in to eventually receive mine.
>>139375321
>>139375408
Actually, if I remember right, it's basically nothing
>>139375529
Pretty large and unwieldy. I'd say about 1 1/4 inches or about 3.4 cm. I haven't read it myself yet, but I lent it to someone who read it and didn't complain at all.
>>139375629
How does the spine hold up, good quality and won't crease on a first reading or does it go to shit quickly? I'm quite picky about that sort of thing when it comes to presentation.

The cheating in the story is probably what hit me the hardest.
I don't understand how any of the characters in this story forgive cheating.
I always pretend that he and Sachi will end up together through all the hurt and pain.

Human relationships are more complex than ideals about fidelity or forgiveness. Some tension always remains and there are lingering echoes of guilt, loneliness and even despair which keep accompanying the characters until the end.
>>139377517
I know, but how deep into your despair and hopelessness do you have to be to give something like that a pass?
Relationships are complex but there are bright line rules. Sachi is different in the sense that Punpun never committed to anything, but both Yuuichi and Midori were committed to each other.

I got it back from the guy I lent it to in fine condition. He did marathon is in one night if that matters

>How do I feel okay again?
get on the ride again
read Dead Dead Demon's de dedede Destruction
>>139372353
go read this
>>139377898
>bright line rules
Those are the ideals about fidelity and forgiveness I was talking about though. Not that many people won't uphold and live by them, but Punpun's cast has many characters on the other end of the scale.

I'm a good chunk in and enjoying it. It seems like everytime I need a tragic or depressing manga, I'm always able to dig one up.
Punpun fans should like Aku no hana as well.
>>139378325
>tragic or depressing
yeah it has that but it also had redemption i dont want to spoil it but the last 3 volumes are insane.
Its personally my favorite because of Moris journey from becoming a recluse from society to a real man with human emotions, and the last climb really shows that.

I'm not sure it's an "ideal" so much as practicality though. When I think "ideal" the relationship that Punpun imagined with Aiko comes to mind.
I read Punpun once a year, it's pretty special for me. I don't think the ending is that negative, as with works like this, I think it's a good idea not to get immersed in the main character, and just try to see everything as an observer.
>>139373484 Is absolutely right, but it's told in such a clear way that I can't help but feel like that the mangaka's intention was to show "dont be punpun", instead of "you are fucked, just give up". Punpun had a shitty life, but over the course of the manga, he was always trying to improve himself in every way, the old couple even mention that they've never seen someone try so hard. People pity him, but they want to help him. After the suicide part however, he just couldn't take it anymore, and his progress stopped.
I think Punpun's message is relatively simple stuff, like "just deal with stuff", or "don't dwell on the past", or "move forward even if it will hurt you", and stuff like that. Maybe it's just me though.
First time I read the series, I was just waiting for Aiko to show up again. I knew that was when shit would get real. Didn't disappoint.

I feel similarly, I definitely felt motivated to not be Punpun after reading it.
