Why can't all baseball anime be this good? The only thing that comes close is One Outs.
>>139360043
All I hear about is how Daiya and Major are the shit tho
>>139360135
Major has no charm to it, and I couldn't get past episode 20 of Daiya.
>>139360043
Have you tried Osomatsu-san?
>>139360197
That isn't even about baseball.
For how much nips love baseball, there are no good series centered around it.
One Outs was too good.
>forgetting Oofuri
Fuck you guys. It's a perfectly fine show that can be enjoyed in completely non-homosexual ways.
>>139361700
We're talking about baseball anime, what about it makes it homosexual? It's just dudes enjoying their hobby and childhood. How is that homosexual?
>>139360043
Diamond would be GOAT if it wasn't for Furuya dragging down the entire plot
>>139360043
A Cross Game thread? Awww yiss.
This shit had one of the most memorable OPs
>>139361785
This guy gets it.
And the same goes for basketball, volleyball, and especially swimming.
>>139360190
Major got really boring after season 3.
>>139361816
The problem with sports anime in general tend to be weak leads. Which doesn't happen in One Outs or Cross Game. But with Major, and Diamond, it drags down the series.
Is that why so much people like Haikyuu? The leads are all pretty interesting and well liked based on their counterparts.
>>139361816
Wouldn't say dragging down we just got too much of him compared to Sawamura.
The artstyle is goofy as hell
No mention of Princess Nine? Seriously...
>>139361945
Yes, but it's not bad, it could be a lot worse. It has a lot of good characterization in it, and the team is fleshed out, instead of just one or two characters.
>>139361952
Is it good, or worth watching? Everyone says it sucks.
>>139361875
I liked the ending more than the opening.
>>139362041
Which one? There were like 6
>>139361895
The difference between all of this is that Baseball is the supreme and better sport.
>>139362064
damn right it is
>>139362064
Too dominated by the pitcher position.

>fifteen posts in
>no mention of an obscure anime from decades ago
Nigger, we started off with Cross Game and haven't even mentioned Touch yet. Wait your turn.
>>139362107
In the same way most other sports, Hockey, Soccer, Basketball, are dominated by the Fwd position? Or how Football is dominated by the QB position?
Sure they get the spotlight, but I wouldn't call it being dominated.
>>139362111
ED 4? You're alright in my book.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-vJzg_GH8M
ED 2 comes in 2nd place for me.
>>139362019
I thought it was good. Not fantastic by any means, but still pretty good.
It's a bit dated... but the characters were fun, the story was interesting, and the art/animation has that nice 90's feel to it that just can't be replicated these days. Plus it has an awesome opening theme.
Should I read or watch Cross Game first?
The only character I didn't like in Cross Game was the annoying little Mountain Climber, can't even remember his name. But he was very annoying, why even have a character like that? Was he suppose to do something?
>>139362191
I don't watch the real sport and all I've really seen is Daiya no Ace, but if what you see in that show is like reality, then I can understand why that anon feels it's too pitcher dominated. Pitchers preventing anyone from scoring for long, long periods.
>>139362265
I liked the style in the anime, and it remains loyal, I would watch it, the VA work is really good too, you have no reason not to watch the anime. If you like it then go on to read the manga.
>>139360043
Because its not a baseball anime. Its a Romance/Character drama which happens to have baseball as a theme.
>>139362301
Thanks senpai. Have some baseball girls.
>>139362278
>I don't watch the real sport
You should fix that, anyways in the real sport the pitcher relies heavily on the defense, he throws it in a certain way that any of the defense men will easily get an out. Although it all starts with the pitcher, very rarely do you see a game in real life where the pitcher will constantly strike out people, it's all about how fast the defense can act.
Even so, most of the play calling is from the Catcher, who is the real center of attention, since he'll stay out there regardless of who is pitching. Since in real life you switch between about 6 or 7 pitchers.
FLCL
>>139362399
They don't even play baseball in FLCL.
>>139362368
Is there a pic like that for the National League teams?
> is a Cardinals fan
>>139362341
Of course it's a baseball anime, they play baseball every episode except for one or two, and even then they are thinking about playing baseball. There is even brotherly bonding, and all of that nonsense.
>>139362375
>mfw I got to see a perfect game in person
granted, it was against my team, which blows. but it was still amazing to see.
a good pitcher's duel can be just as entertaining as a dingers fest
>>139362444
I'm not sure. Maybe if you smoke more meth you'll find it.
>>139362444
The 2016 one is NL, but I don't have it saved
also, shouldn't you be smoking meth right about now?
>>139361945
Put a rope around your neck and jump from the 2nd floor
>>139362484
When a pitcher throws a perfect game, it is very interesting to watch, not many sports can match the hype behind it.
>>139362479
Most of the episodes they are practicing. And during practice, the focus is on character development and the four way love story.
Even when they are playing a real game, much of the attention is put on Aoba's feelings or 'team bonding'.
You can definitely call it a baseball show. But the greater focus is on the character interaction and relationships. While baseball is a catalyst for getting the characters together.
>>139361914
Nah, I don't think the leads are the problem because Adachi's MCs aren't all that special either and the characters are the draw in something like Daiya. The problem is that pure sports anime like Daiya, Ookiku, KnB, Haikyuu, Yowapeda, etc means endlessly dragging games at a high school level. When you mix sports with romance you get good stuff like Cross Game or Touch, when you mix it with gambling you get One Outs, when you mix it with character drama you get Ping Pong or AnJ, etc. Very few series can make constant games entertaining on their own (eg Slam Dunk), otherwise they rely on the audience's attachment to the character (hence fujos).
>>139362368
>Rays
I didn't know we had enough support to get fan drawings.
>>139362590
>Even when they are playing a real game, much of the attention is put on Aoba's feelings or 'team bonding'.
What? Most of the focus of Cross Game, when games were happening, was just how good Kou was at pitching. Every coach was sweating and everyone was showering him with praise, and then you have Aoba in the stands admiring him. Fast forward to practice it's all about Aoba teaching him. It's a baseball love romance, but baseball is definitely a bigger part than the romance.
>>139362616
you guys should have stuck with the "Devil rays" name and Uni's tbhfam
they looked so much cooler.
>>139362607
So in order for a sports anime to be acclaimed, per say, is to have it combined with something else to get out of the monotony of game after game. Since there is only so much variance you can do. Which I think is why One Outs and Cross Game is so good, they blend in other aspects into the baseball theme very well. But baseball is still more prudent than the other themes, being gambling and romance. However I think in One Outs gambling is more forthcoming than baseball.
>>139362697
The reason they changed it from Devil Rays, was that Devil was offensive to some people around here, for some reason.
Just finished DnA, so I'll hold off on jumping into another show right away, but I'll keep it in mind.

>>139362781
>for some reason.
because it's Florida
>>139362217
Orange Days is alright, but ED4 is still the best, why are the OPs so underwhelming?
>>139362781
But the first season after they took the "devil" out of the Rays, they won the AL Pennant and made it to the World Series. So those crazies in Florida actually knew what they were talking about (for once)

>>139362616
Teams need to stop changing things just because someone dislikes it. Especially since the 'Devil Ray' is a real animal.
The real problem is that Devil Rays was a dumb mascot to begin with. Which is why they are trying to phase it out and make their team about 'rays of the sun'. Which is even more stupid.
>>139362879
>Especially since the 'Devil Ray' is a real animal.
They aren't called Devil Rays anymore, but Rays.
The same way Jew Fish was changed to Goliath.
>>139362879

>>139363446
Something wrong anon?
>>139363538
yes, I've read many of Adachi's works, don't get me wrong I don't think he's bad, but he just doesn't move one from elementary/high-school characters, and to me that's just wasted potential
>>139363596
What good sports anime does not take place in HS/MS/Elementary?
>>139363596
I've said it before and I'll say it again, elementary/high-school characters aren't particularly limiting at all. Especially in Adachi's case when literally everything else is identical in a lot of his manga, too, the characters being under eighteen seems like the most trivial similarity.
>>139363596
not to mention a lot of his stuff is romance/baseball on top of that
i like mitsuru's works, but it got a bit harder to once i realized it's essentially the same thing over and over again
>>139363630
>>139363643
basically what >>139363653
said, can't remember the title, but that one manga he made about adults/coming of age was a fucking blast, also whenever it's not baseball, all his romance manga are highschool themed,
is it really that hard to at least up it to college aged characters?
>>139363446
The new one is a sequel to Touch tho, that's actually kinda interesting.
Now if it actually had any character from Touch in it.
Speaking of which
>>139360043
Touch's anime is also pretty good.
>>139363706
>that one manga he made about adults/coming of age
It wasn't that baseball-and-crime oneshot, right? Because he didn't write that.
>is it really that hard to at least up it to college aged characters?
You phrase that like it's an obvious expectation that he's just not trying hard enough to meet or something. Why would he up it to college aged characters?
>>139363706
College aged baseball players would have gone pro if they were any good.
>>139363802
>>139364010
right let me rephrase it, he likes baseball, nothing wrong here, so what's wrong with college, small leagues or even amateur leagues between companies/associations? why must it always be the koshien tournament? hell why doesn't he make one about his favorite team the tigers?
>>139363630
Ashita no Joe, One Outs and Giant Killing are my favourites, it's a fucking crime that there isn't more sports series about pros.
>>139363643
It's limiting in the opportunities it provides for drama, pros have a lot more pressure on them than just their feelings about getting to koushien. It's their career, their income, they're reliant on the company backing them, the sponsors, the fanbase, etc. It actually feels like it needs to be taken somewhat seriously. I love the end of One Outs in particular because it gets into all the outside factors influencing the sport.
>>139364020
>It's limiting in the opportunities it provides for drama, pros have a lot more pressure on them than just their feelings about getting to koushien. It's their career, their income, they're reliant on the company backing them, the sponsors, the fanbase, etc. It actually feels like it needs to be taken somewhat seriously.
I feel like you're reading Adachi in some totally different way. Notice how he usually gets his romantic resolution and skips past the final match/tournament? It's not really about the sport, and it's certainly not about some realistic depiction of the pressures of professional life, these are minor elements. He's writing youth romcoms first and foremost.
>>139364018
There's probably a few reasons.
One is that Koshien is romantic per se.
One is that he's old and he's basically been writing this kind of shit for like, at least 30 years now (to be honest his mangas about other sports aren't half bad, Slow Step and Katsu are both very good).
Editors are probably pushing him to write the same stuff over and over since it prints money.
>>139364180
Talking about the Koshien, when does the spring one start?
>>139364180
so, he's good, and he could do more, but he or the editors play it safe since sports/romcom are his bread and butter?
>>139364018
Idol Ace is technically about pros, the MCs are just teenaged pros. Because no one wants to read a shounen romcom about a twenty-five-year-old Tigers player with a crush on the coach's daughter.
>>139363786
H2 > Touch > Cross GameIn my opinion.
>>139364246
>>139364180
I'm going to guess it's not the editors, since he's famous and presumably rich and could find another magazine or just not publish if he didn't like what they told him. I think he just likes writing this kind of thing.
>>139364277
so it's only ok if it's boxing?
I love Daya because it focuses on the sport.
Oofuri is probably the best holding balance between SoL and sport, my favourite atm.
CrossGame had a lot of SoL but was well written and i liked it too. It isn't really a Baseball anime though, because the sport is more of a background.
In Major, the MC is not likeable at all, but the Games were ok.
OneOuts is more of a Baseball Kaiji, it got a bit too much like that in the end for me. It's still good and a fun ride.
Fuck i want more Baseball.
>>139364345
His boxing romcom was also about high schoolers.
Come on guys.
>>139364108
I wasn't really thinking of him in particular when I wrote that because I like Adachi's stuff for what it is. It's more my general response to
>elementary/high-school characters aren't particularly limiting at all
>>139364474
Oh, I see. Yeah, it stops you from doing the pressures of a job, that's definitely true, but I don't think aging up most of the stuff about high schoolers would get you that sort of thing, you know? It's not like most of it is trying to deal with realistic pressures in the first place. Maybe you could age some of them up and get something like Living Game, but that still wasn't particularly serious or in-depth about the work, it's just a convenient backdrop for stuff to sometimes happen, rather than a really important/vital setting.
>people complaining about high school romcoms in Adachi series
That's like complaining that Haruhi should have removed the high school shit and been heavy science fiction.
>>139364920
>>139360190
>>139361904
Major's fifth season is really good though.
>>139365019
I liked the first season, but i'd like it more if the guys he played with as a kid were to become a team in their middle/high school years (of course with some changes and drama and whatever) but stood together instead of him just hopping around and doing shit for his pride.
>>139364240
It ended today actually, Chiben Gakuen won. I'm a little upset that the teams I was rooting for all got knocked out in the first two rounds.
>>139364294
Truth. Only thing about H2 was the ending. But I guess no matter how they could pair the Hs, someone's gonna feel bad. Which is pretty good writing, I guess.

Adachi's not really a romance writer, more of YOUTH (SEISHUN DA!). And let's face it, all his main characters are practically the same with sameface.
And that's not mentioning that he wrote the proto-Oreimo.

It does. Check here in August, it starts on the 7th. http://www.asahi.com/koshien/
Incidentally Spring Koushien was streamed here this year. http://mainichi.jp/koshien/senbatsu/live/
>>139367844
Can't recall where I was watching the spring before since I missed it last year as well, but the summer never had a stable channel, so thanks for both of these. Bookmarked.
Read the manga. The anime looks disgusting.
>>139368020

>>139368127
Yeah, when I do remember to check I end up searching quite a bit. Should make a damn memo for the summer one.
>>139360190
Major is the soap opera of anime baseball. Too melodramatic. It is too desperate in trying to make you feel something for the characters.
Someone hasn't watched Touch or Taisho Yakuu Musume
>>139361952
I really dislike Princess Nine because isnĀ“t really about baseball. It is even less about baseball than Prince of Tennis is about tennis. The characters are just too caricaturesque and simplistic.
A sort of similar show that kind of works for me is Battle Athletes because the characters are just as ridiculous, but they are competing in invented sports.
>>139369696
Not that guy but that's exactly why I liked it. Instead of the usual tropes in which pitches were described as superpowers, in here they really were superpowers. Which was goofy enough to have fun with if you ask me.
>>139369730
Then you might like Prince of Tennis. Not my thing definitely.
I completely forgot that I started watching Princess Nine several years ago and never finished it until this thread.
>>139369769
I did try it, yes, but couldn't get into it for some reason. It just wasn't... fun.
