I've vowed not to buy opened from Surugaya anymore. Price is an indication of actual quality, but since Surugaya's prices drop every so often it's hard to tell if the item is good but shelfwarming for a long time, or in bad condition listed cheap. The only thing they say is used.
I've found Westerners less caring about opened / sealed although sealed still go for a little bit more.

I found an Alter figure for a nice price on eBay, but the pictures are blurry. From comparing boxes it looks alright. The seller is in the US and hasn't sold much, what are the chances of it being a bootleg? Is there any way of figuring out bootlegs by just boxes of alter figures?

I actually own that Asuka (an E0246 original) and Rei (recast from a Shinya Yamashita GK). When they did the Misato years later, I facepalmed really hard. Misato just looks so tacky.
I love the Asuka and Rei though, and both have a little cast-off if you're feeling frisky, but cast off on resins are a bad idea in general because of how easy the paint can scratch as opposed to PVC.
