The series was good because it didn't fall into the usual shonen tropes, until the ending which was a long ass battle with ridiculous power ups out of nowhere and other crap. Also CONTROLLED MADNESS and shitty Chrona development were poor conclusions to two of the most interesting bits of the series.

The problem is twofold. It's not just that Madness/Ashura was defeated, but it was done by Maka. By herself. Alone. I love Maka as much as the next Makafag, but the narrative was kinda supporting a teamwork theme and that madness is a natural part of all humans. Maka single handedly (heh) beating Ashura goes against the paltry amount of morals in Soul Eater.

Medusa was to demanding as a mother, Chrona is feminine but he is not full blown daughter. He lacks the proper poise and self confidence a lady would have. His mother was a cunt.

There's two problems I see with that
Soul Eater's anime was very faithful to begin with for the non-original chunk. Little adaptations are done as faithfully as Soul Eater's was for the most part. Eventually it starts to diverge but that's something along the lines of just the last 10 episodes, so you have the majority of the show that couldn't possibly be adapted better than it already was. This is completely different from FMA's situation where the 2003 anime had a lot of filler and padding in the beginning and then already diverged pretty quickly from its source making most of the anime original.
If you were to ignore that, you still have the fact the manga's ending is also shit, so you'd be watching towards a second, well, third disappointment.
I WOULD love to see a lot of what wasn't animated animated, though.
Maka is cute.
