As much as I love Nausicaa, I'm not so sure that she's a "good" character per say. Even in the manga she was pretty much just one of Miyazaki's ideals personified.

I don't think being the personification of an ideal makes a character bad. I think there's something good to be said about actively pushing a worldview, something we don't see too often these days. That's really all I can say though, I haven't seen Nausicaa since high school so I can't remember much.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing either, but Miyazaki himself said that he was writing her as a character who he wishes existed. As a result. she's devoid of most internal struggle and seems superhuman. However, I'm talking mostly about the manga. In the movie with its condensed length, there is a little bit more that helps make her more believable but in the manga Miyazaki abandoned a lot of interesting character struggles which could've contributed.
That said, I fucking love the manga. It's so packed with ideas.

Well she is kind of a messianic figure so I think it makes sense that she appears superhuman.
There's an interesting evolution between the early Nausicaa, naive and prone to anger, that doesn't know war and the one from the late volumes, who is more knowledgeable about the realities of the world outside her home and more calm.
I liked what was revealed in the garden of Hidolas, about her relationship with her mother too.
