I think a lot of people are pre-emptively backing Mirage largely because of precedent. I liked what we saw of Freyja in the pre-air. Though ultimately, I want this to become a show where I don't even care who wins because I like both options. I usually don't care if my favorite doesn't win, as long as however it ends, it's written well.
Macross Plus sales were also terrible until 2008 with the BD box release.

Macross Delta seems to be the most fanciful unrealistic macross yet. One thing previous macross series tried to do is have some realism with the transforming veritechs/vehicles. But Delta seems to ignore the planes having their jet wash directed over civilians, noise levels of jet exhaust aimed at civilians, the lack of debri, etc, in order to support the idol group fantasy.
Macross Frontier kept the idol fantasy inside the holograms, but Delta has taken the fantasy out and made a lot of the fantasy exist in real life. I am disappointed in macross surrendering realism for the purpose of supporting idol group performances just to sell more idol merchandise. Love Live Macross. m@CROSSM@STER. And now Macross Delta.
Of course, I will watch it because it is part of the macross franchise. But I will have misgivings and some regret for the loss of macross "common sense" considerations due to the franchise wanting to get on board the idol gravy train.

Anyone else think Delta is just going to be a giant clusterfuck? There were literally 15 different characters and 3 factions thrust into the viewer in the first episode and I had no fucking idea what was going on or who the main characters were or what their motivations were or who the bad guys are. Why can't they just tell a simple, yet effective story anymore? Is it because they have to merchandise all this idolshit and veritech fighters?

1. They give you a slow introduction; action comes later
2. They throw you into the middle of the action while giving you a very brief overrun of what's going on; explanations come later

I mean I think the cast size is a legitimate concern and I'm not saying the first episode was some 10/10 masterpiece, but a lot of this was some really basic shit I'm not sure how you missed.

The idol stuff felt really superfluous from the preview episode, like you could remove them completely and nothing would really have changed since it was the mechs doing all the hard work while they just pranced around and calmed down a grand total of one Zentradi.
