why the fuck do they carry katanas when they go pilot mechas in space /a/?

So they can cut the noodly appendages of their tentacle rapists.

>carrying ceremonial weapons in combat
you failed anon
>>139330816
Because Yamato Damashii will increase their mechs abilities 1000 fold.
>>139330816
you didn't even watch the series, did you?
>>139330948
>not carrying ceremonial weapons in combat
shamefur dispray 2bh famiry
>>139330816
Nationalism. Plus, a very last resort weapon.
>>139331006
watching it atm
Mechas using katanas can be awesome anyway.
>>139331188
yes but the pilot doesn't need a katana in the cockpit. if anything it could limit movement if left on the belt
>>139330948
Back in the days where everyone used muskets and there were infantry lines. The sergeants all had no guns and only a sword to protect himself.
you mean to tell me that after living in space for 1000 years they didn't think of putting black boxes in mechas that monitor all incoming and outgoing transmissions? and why weren't the charges set to a single remote in the first place? this is beyond retarded
heavily considering dropping this show after this ep.
>>139331369
back in the days, the sergeants weren't piloting giant mechas in space and the enemies weren't gigantic abominations only damageable/killable by alien spear thingies. you could actually use that saber effectively if it ever turned into close combat for some reason
>>139331456
>implying they weren't
>>139330948
This is why you are such a shitty king
>>139331188
>dem artifacts
>>139331369
also, after 1 or 2 volleys of shots the infantry commonly charged to finish off the rest of the enemies with bayonets. they didn't just stand there firing volley after volley until one side was nobody left standing. the swords were actually useful
They actually explain this in the show anon.
>>139331384
Jesus /g/, go be autistic somewhere else.
"The enemy can't push the button if you disable his hand!"
>>139331722
as i said i'm watching it atm. they sure as hell didn't explain it in the same episode. currently considering id it's worth watching the rest
>>139331744
>oh uh someone spotted a plot hole in a show i like
>i have no counter-argument
>better call them an autist
get >>>/out/
decided i'll watch on 2x just to see if they actually explain the shit with the private channel anywhere like >>139331722 said
although i'm expecting something along the lines of kunato going
>hurr durr my family made this so i have the super secret codes that override everything hurr durr
which will still make no sense since MC uses a Type 17 which should be able to monitor everything independently of Kunato's family mumbo jumbo with the hardwar/software of the Type 18's
>>139331758
I still remember this scene the most and how absurd but great it was
>>139330816
Rule of cool.
It was explained that it's mostly just for show, at least in the manga it was.
>>139330816
Bacause glorious nippon steel. Katanas can cut spase, you know.
>>139332251
ep 8 in the anime, still no mention to it so far
to commit sudoku with, obviously
>>139331188
jesus christ anon lower the resolution
please don't let this be the explanation for no blackbox. i refuse to believe that they were able to develop a new type of space fighting mecha, but storage devices were just too much
>>139332068
Actually this is the saddest anime of the last 20 years. When the asexual girl dies after the pregnant party...
>>139330816
Because Nippon stronk steel folded over 1000 times.
>>139333562
i keep forgetting the spoiler tag is also used to cover spoilers and not only comedic effect. well done me. well done.
>>139330816
To look cool. Izana may use it for something else though.
>>139330816
Those things are laced in anti-gauna material if i remember correctly.
