Cause there's less talking heads and more action, coupled with nostalgia. Nothing written by Tanaka is remotely complex, so your point about watered down is absurd. The only thing LOGH has over Arslan so far is Yang vs Reinhardt while in Arslan there is no enemy genius for Narsus, only the cliche mustache twirling wizards in black robes using low magic in both series.
