Guts is basically the only person that Griffith has ever respected or gave a remote shit about.
Even in his hypothetical scenario with his future rape victim taking care of him for the rest of his life he hates that. He never gave a remote fuck about women and while Griffith truly is a FAGGOT I can't say he's a homo either. He's just some weird psychopath who was willing to sacrifice whatever it was in order to achieve muh dream.
But Guts was his equal and in some ways his better and that's important because it's specifically how Griffith felt. He's the only person I can think of where Griffith ever had a connection above being some sort of pawn for muh dream. He wanted to be big king dick OG and adored by all but it's not as if he cared that those people around him loved him outside of the general desire to be the dream king image of "strong, handsome, loved by all, smart, etc". Guts, on the other hand, is probably the only person whose approval he would have genuinely cared about.
Griffith has always been a complete sociopath with an intense charisma that pulled people in to help him achieve muh dream. Guts not only connected with Griffith to the point where he's basically the guys only real friend but also managed to break and be independent. On some level that's the big deal breaker in all of this. Guts left Griffith. Fucking some random princess or anything less than muh dream was far less important than his only real friend Guts managing to go out on his own. I'm sure Griffith both hated Guts for leaving and was happy he had a real equal.
