Well at least with the spoken side of things, all I'd really need to do is increase my knowledge of words a bit and I'd be good at least with little girl shows. As it is I can follow along with the Aikatsu livestreams without too much issue, although that's only understanding every 2nd word or sentence here and there.
I'd personally prefer though to get a grasp on the language as a whole. Right from the start with memorising the Hiragana tables and all that stuff.

Having taken college classes and becoming somewhat fluent, the first thing you do is never force yourself to learn the alphabet without context. Once you have a basic understanding of words and grammar do you learn kana, and it's easier because you now have context for what each word means. When I said PP isn't even trying that wasn't a compliment sadly.
I meant how the franchise is "winning" against Aikatsu while it has the laziest and wasted potentialest anime I saw in a long while. It's probably mainly thanks to the arcade game.
PPs2 is good but could have been infinitly better if not for the staff always taking shortcuts and the easiest route to write the characters.
Aikatsu s1 is definitely better than PP, s2 included. Can't speak about the other seasons of Aikatsu though, didn't see them.

As someone who watched all of Pripara so far and understands it, I don't think it's being overrated but it feels like that because Aikatsu S3 and S4 were really really stale while Pripara saw a huge increase in quality from S1 to S2. It's like when you expect nothing and suddenly you get a pretty good result. I've also understood and watched it but I still don't think it's anywhere near as good as people are making it out to be. People are making it sound like S2 was the best thing since sliced bread. The first half was still boring and even once it picked up, although it got a lot better it never reached this pinnacle of being the greatest thing ever people are making it out to be. It definitely improved and is definitely good, but nowhere near as amazing as people are making it out to be.
Also I think S2 will probably be the high point, this is PP after all. We're in for another year of catchphrases: the anime: the experience after this.

I just loved every single character interaction in S2. Hibiki dealing with everyone was such a treat, from the "rivalry" with Mirei, to adapting to Mikan's gluttony, and then Dorothy making fun of the Maho-chan nickname. Aromagedon's interaction with Garuru, Faruru and Hibiki's relationship, Ajimi and Hibiki's backstory, Sophy and Shion inside Celepara, Meganii's fall and rise in Chikapara. Not to mention the humor was top notch, the performances were always at least pretty good, and Aromagedon is the best duo to ever grace any idol anime.

It's nothing to do with the lead in, it's just plain good. Hibiki as a righteous antagonist and the back and forth game of idols on the two sides of genius vs effort turns over the usually well defined lines drawn between protagonist and antagonist, especially since who's on which side keeps on changing. Fuwari and Ajimi were used to great effect in this plot, and Mirei's failure and despair followed by her subsequent rise to the top were well developed and satisfying. Plus, the entire plot has underlying themes of the real argument created between PR and PP supporters, and has just enough meta without it being overbearing or too subtle. The performance fights themselves were alright, but PriPara shines in the offstage and training scenes. Plus, sidles get their fair share of screentime and lines, even with the large number of them. Everyone with a gobi ever was off torturing Hibiki in the elevator last episode, and all voiced.

I disagree, and I think it's the reason why a lot of people watch japanese kids oriented cartoons but not other cartoons from other countries, as they generally have more plotholes and a "we don't care because it's for kids" attitude. We even already had that discussion once here with some anons talking about how Winx Club's plot dwindled across it's seasons.
But even assuming this is true and taking it into account, in my opinion, PP s2 in multiple occasions crossed the point where I'm sure even a little girl coud tell something was wrong.

Japanese kids oriented cartoons definitely have less plotholes and do care more about their plots than other countries' cartoons, but it's incorrect to say there's no dwindling or random dropping of plotlines. Some Precure seasons, for instance, suffer a lot from it (HappinessCharge comes to mind, but if you have watched it I'm sure we can agree HaCha was way worse than the average Precure season. Maybe a better example is Aikatsu forgetting about the existence of its own characters).
This is an intrinsic trait of little girl anime because of the way they are planned. Most episodes have to feel 'standalone' in a way so that kids who don't watch every week and parents who sometimes watch it with them also feel entertained and not completely lost. While in Japan they try to keep more continuity than other countries' animation, that's still something present in these anime and it's why some plotlines never go further.

I don't disagree. But I don't think there was anything wrong with that as long as it kept being entertaining, which it did. Pripara is a humongous success with little girls and I think that just proves the point.
Again, I'm not saying Pripara S2 was perfect or even an amazing masterpiece of an anime. It was just so much better than every other currently airing series and showed so much improvement over S1 that the praise for it sounded a little exaggerated. I'm glad most of us who watched it enjoyed it and I'm really hoping they can keep it up next season.

Among other words people use to describe all the anime we love, perhaps one of the most incorrectly used after "irrelevant" is plot hole. There's an important difference between a plot hole, meaning an event that due to its absence or not being explained properly, which is critical to the story making sense, and a loose or dangling plot thread, which simply means a point that was brought up as important but later determined not to be. Four special appeals used to be legendary, but was never said to be the only way to make it to top idol status. Dream Academy once rivaled Starlight, but decided to go independent and not rely on their competition and cooperation. Things continue moving behind the scenes and are sometimes shown in other places like the OP, say like the DreAca world tour, but there isn't any time to show it directly, and that's totally fine.

The hard work vs genius arc, while it already happened in other anime, was a great idea. It was horribly written though, hence why I keep saying wasted potential.
First off if they really wanted to blurry the lines between protagonist and antagonist like you say, they should have made Laala join the genius team.
Then there's how Mireille was the main character of the arc, and the one in direct opposition with Hibiki's ideals, but only actually got 2-3 episodes focused on her. And one wasn't really her episode but Garuru's.
Plus, one triggers of the hard work vs genius arc was how Mireille felt like she can't keep up with Sophie because she's a "genius". Except that was never brought up before and she had absolutely no problem keeping up with Sophie or Shion for 70 episodes. Mireille was in fact Shion's rival before they forgot about it. See episode 15.
Then there's everyone acting as if it's impossible to be friends and rivals at the same time. But we already discussed that, hence why I always say "everyone in PP is an idiot anyway".
Fuwari and Ajimi played a big role, but there's also a point when both got sent off, for no reason, for a few episodes. Even though they're the two characters with the biggest connection to Hibiki. It's similar to when Fuwari&Hibiki gets first introduced and Hibiki never ever interacts with any other character than Fuwari, the staff took the easy way out.
By making Ajimi Fuwari leave, Hibiki's plot resolution was stalled, and she was made to act like an idiot contradicting herself, with her dictatorship and the whole "no one besides a certain rank can perform". How are you supposed to have rivalry then? There's still the rivalry inside the genius team itself, but do you honestly think that's what Hibiki meant during her glorious speech in 73?

I was really excited about the meta PR vs PP thing, but that went nowhere, at least as of episode 84, haven't seen the climax yet as I said. It definitely wasn't a coincidence, as there was stuff like Hibiki skating in her performance, but I think they bit bigger than what they could chew and just abandoned the idea. In the first place, I don't even feel represented by Hibiki because I let go of PR and wasn't expecting PP to be similar, and I don't want it to turn into PR either. PP could be a better form of what it already is, regardless of whether it gets closer to PR or not.

Yes, exactly, that's the entire point. In the last episodeHibiki shows she's just as much an idiot as everyone else. The show is telling you that it's not one or the other, it's not us or them, it's just everyone trying to enjoy themselves. But in the end, even when Hibiki got what she wanted in her world without friends, it was just lonely and boring. Hatred only breeds sadness. When Hibiki ultimately ended up looking for a friend in Fuwari, not a "princess" i.e. some perfect ideal girl/anime to put on a pedestal and worship, it was really saying that we, the viewers, just want to be understood and acknowledged. Some people were left feeling isolated and abandoned when Pretty Rhythm ended, without anywhere to let their frustrations but PriPara. They were left alone by the people who moved on and enjoyed both.We can argue over which is better or how to "fix" things to our own personal preference, but in the end we're all just the same bakas looking to make friends and have fun.
