Not really my intention to be tedious, harping on and on about Bubuki Buranki.
But in regards to being too smooth, I'd just like to point out that something Bubuki Buranki generally did very well, was limited animation with CGI.
They manipulated frames and framerates in the animations and skipped and jumped ahead in motions to more mimic traditional animation.
The animation no doubt has many flaws of its own. But as far as I am concerned, I didn't find and or wasn't bothered by most of the common flaws of CGI anime that I was expecting to find, that I was expecting to bother me.
While the animation also capitalized greatly on the strengths of CGI animation compensating for whatever flaws there were, finding a way to shine in its own right.
It has its flaws and strengths just like traditional animation, but even though the flaws and strengths may be a little different from traditional animation, in this case I can't bring myself to claim that it was inferior. It was visually impressive and it charmed me. The show has been beautiful.
That's my impression at the very least. It's not as if people can't disagree, but I would implore people to give it a proper chance first, before dismissing it off hand just for being CGI. Like I almost did, but I am very glad that I didn't.

The level of damage control for BokuMachi on some sites is just amazing. Some people are so hung up on the show as this all time great that they just don't want to admit that it was a disc sales flop and are trying to deflect attention off to the fact that it's manga got a boost, as if no show has ever gotten a source boost from finishing up and having a concurrently airing anime and live action adaptation to get more people interested. People could talk about KonoSuba which got an all around source boost and disc sales but they're too busy doing damage control for this one show.

When I think of great manga boosts from adaptations I think of stuff like Assasination Classroom and Haikyuu! which also had solid disc sales the former of which even just got a live action adaptation that opened at Number 1. I don't even think I've seen Bokumachi appear on any manga ranking chart since some time in early February either.

The first movie barely brought in 800 million yen with NisioIsin special novel benefits to try to draw viewers back into theaters for the first month. To put it in perspective that's like slightly less than double what Love Live The School Idol Movie made in it's first 2 day weekend when it came out on a 4 day holiday and has been in theaters for nearly 3 months now since it just had little momentum after the first week or two. Another comparison would be that it's at less than half of where the GuP movie is at now with the latter actually still showing some legs. GuP was only supposed to be about a 600-800 million yen grosser while Kizu was supposed to be pushing 2 billion by now and instead it's the other way around.
They really should have just made it a single film. I bet more people would have gone to see it since they'd be feeling less gouged and like it was worth the repeat viewing and they wouldn't have had to now spend so much money marketing it across a years worth of releases and paying for three separate stints at 100+ theaters. Aniplex really needs to stop splitting shit up and trying to gouge, it's pretty much never worked out for them as well as they seem to think it will even with fanatics groups.

It's now Rank 12 and out of the top 10 overall entirely after 5 days. For comparisons sake the GuP film stayed at #1 for two weeks straight. The second highest ranked Kizu volume is now even below the super special limited edition GuP volume too. I might be wrong but I don't think it's getting 100K sales or anything like that. It's not bad but there's a lot of problems with the CGI they're using. They can't set the models to look at the other models properly. The proportions for Epizo and MC looks weird making them look stumpy. The movements looks like mannequins being moved rather then people. And when they focus on the eyes, they could have made a better one than the one that they used, it makes the eyes look low quality.

The creator is a CGI studio. It's not like "bankrupting" one studio will discourage the whole industry in the use of CGI. There's hardly a message in that, each studio may use CGI according to what they want even if it's mostly used to save money.
On the contrary it may encourage them to improve their CGI. God, the CGI in Arslan was awful.
