How? How can anyone possibly like such a simpering, worthless, piece of garbage. A character who spends her entire screentime promising to do something, never doing it and then retiring for the night telling herself that she "made progress!"
Everything about her is pathetic, she's literally unlikably worthless and the fact that the setting has her being so weak over the course of goddamn years makes it even worse. Chitoge isn't much better, but at least she's got more to her character than just never ever doing one single thing.

People too often forget that Onodera tried to progress many times, especially earlier in the manga. However Komi would just fuck her over each time with convenient plot bullshit to help Chitoge gain ground instead, despite Chitoge often acting against her own interests the majority of the time.
I don't prefer either girl but you'd have to be delusional to believe that the only reason she hasn't won is because the author is forcing otherwise.
