Oshutoru had some things to do, and left Haku alone in his office. Because Haku was bored, he made a paper mask copy of Oshutoru's mask, got some spare clothes, and pretended to be Oshutoru. Nekone walks in and she can't tell the difference, so Haku plays around a bit by making her sit on his lap, then patting her head/rubbing her throat, and feed her candy. Oshutoru comes back, and Nekone's mind goes poof because she really can't tell the difference.
Later on, Haku and Nekone are walking together and Haku impersonates Oshutoru once again, first his voice, then his trump card, the mask. Atui comes along after Haku puts the mask and she can't tell the difference either. Then a gust of wind comes, makes the paper mask fall off, and while Haku is trying to put it back, Atui is like "Oshutoru-han is a bit weird... Could it be, it's not him and it's actually mister?" She also comments that his voice and demeanor are so alike he thought he was the real thing.

I just wish it was a bit darker. There wasn't really much drama. They tried to do a lot of parallels with the first game, like Ukon's men killed by the Borogigiri = villagers killed by Mutikapa, but it was much harder to emphasize with a bunch of mercenaries that you barely even knew than the first game's villagers. The whole "being oppressed/fighting for your life" aspect was completely missng, even the Uzurussha invasion was solved in a matter of minutes.
The only really dramatic part was Oshtoru dying, and then copying the first game's ending with Eruru saying goodbye = Kuon leaving.

Ukon is the fake name and it comes from "Ukonoe taichou (右近衛隊長), meaning right imperial guard general.
He was born as Oshtoru, and climbed the ranks to that position. He was frustrated that the higher he ascended, the less actual actions were allowed to him because of politics, and so he created Ukon, who was allowed to use force more easily being a simple mercenary.

Yeah, at first I thought I only really liked the first 11 episodes, but, that ending was pretty good. They set up the perfect setting for the next series. Haku is going to retake Yamato in a similar style to how Hakuro did in the first series (starting off with a small village full of fighters and strategically working his way up). Also, he will meet Kuon again, maybe while they are fighting each other in their mecha-god forms.

Still, the PC opening's music somehow always makes me feel nostalgic. Whenever I want to replay the game, it always puts me into the mood. The music fits well for both an adventure and also as a warsong. Well, the first game is fairly bare bones. There aren't really any special abilities, so it's mostly a game of hitting the enemy first and putting your units in places where it takes the enemy at least 2 rounds to reach them, so you can act first. The usual stuff that you do in TBS games with pretty much only attack and move commands. It's not bad, but it wouldn't stand on its own without the story carrying it. Of course the units aren't all the same, there are archers with ranged attacks and if I remember correctly spearmen can attack from two tiles and things like that, but that's about all.
The PS2 version adds some depth with items and combo attacks, but it's not translated.
The second game has far better gameplay. Each unit has at least 3-4 different attacks that have various range or cleave/area effect so you want to think which one to use. There are also buffs and debuffs and passive abilities that make units different.
