What does /a/ think of Michiko to Hatchin?
>>
It's no Samurai Champloo.
>>
>>139184449
I loved it.
>>
It was surprisingly good. Moreover, Michiko's voice was cool.
>>
>>139184449
2edgy, boondocks is better
>>
>>139184513
boondocks is great
>>
>>139184506
Her voice was absolute sex. Too bad she isn't in anything else.
>>
>>139184729
I'm still mad at that.
>>
>>139184449
Greatly entertaining.

>>
>>139184449
No fun tryhard garbage.
>>
I liked what I saw of it
Haven't finished it tho
>>
One of those shows i really wish was just a bit better.
>>
>>139186792
It's not like it's unpopular or obscure. It got a decent amountof attention around here while it aired. And from what I hear it was fairly popular with the Western audience while it aired on Toonami.
>>
>>139187489
Too bad it sold so poorly that it didn't even rank.

Pain.
>>
Had some really excellent episodes. Things like Shinsuke's and later, Satoshi's deaths have really stuck with me after all these years. It would have been a solid anime overall if the ending wasn't such a letdown.
>>
Brazilian Sluts: The Anime
>>
>>139184449
Definitely one of my favorite series. RIP Manglobe

>>139184729
They got live action actresses for the leads. I guess they really wanted it to be a kind of prestige piece, inasmuch as that goes for anime.
>>
>>139188438
I never really got why people say the ending was a letdown. I felt okay with how it wrapped up.
>>
Love this series, but the English dub was awful and probably contributed to poor sales.
>>
>>139188835
Fuck you, dub was great. Michiko's voice was pure sex.
>>
It was pretty great, including the ending
>>
>>139184449
It was pretty good.
Some of the early zany bits with the police grated on me, but it's hard to complain about anything else.

Disappointing. It's very inconsistent.
It's like a Watanabe show except he only did the music selection, and it shows.
Director is that girl who did that awful Fujiko anime.

Still hands down one of my favorite anime. One of the few stories that I can just watch over and over again and feel the same kind of emotion every time. I knew as soon as Funi released a DVD set that I had to buy it immediately.
>>
God show overall, terrible ending, Hatching and a baby what the fuck
>>
I loved the series, but it's a shame that the only time people discuss it is when it's about the dub is brought up, when comparing other Watanabe works or bitching about its ending.

On it's own, Michiko e Hatchin is a wonderful series that oozes style and has an insane amount of work poured into it from the setting, characters and especially OST, yet didn't get nearly amount of praise it deserved.

>>139188835

As much as I enjoyed the series, I was surprised by how off-putting the dub was, especially Hana and Michiko, despite how long it took Funi to pick it up. Even though I didn't care for the dub, I still bought it when Funi released it on DVD, after dragging their asses for so long, just to have a physical copy. And this is coming from a person who imported the original.

I kind of liked it. It shows that even someone like Hatchin, who seems very level headed can make poor decisions that follow her the rest of her life and just make the best out of a bad situation.
>>
>>139190381
Really? I thought the dub was actually really good. I mean it had been years since I'd listened to the japanese version so maybe it's because I wasn't comparing it to anything? Monica Rial actually put effort into Michiko's Acting and added a little flair to her voice to make her sound a bit more like someone from South America. I thought it was one of the better dubs I'd seen.
>>
>>139184449
>What does /a/ think of Michiko to Hatchin?

I WISH IT HAD MORE FAN-ART, MERCHANDISE, AND DOUJINS.

FUCK.
>>
>>139190580

>Monica Rial actually put effort into Michiko's Acting and added a little flair to her voice to make her sound a bit more like someone from South America. I thought it was one of the better dubs I'd seen.

This is exactly what turned me off to the dub, when Michiko should have been sassy, foul-mouthed, with a heavy accent.
>>
>>139184449
Ending gets unfairly hated on.
>>
>>139184449
A literal masterpiece. Proof that the anime industry will never be the same without Manglobe.
>>
>>139184449
Great first half, retarded "MUH REALISM" ending.
>>
>>139190773
Literally the only thing she doesn't have is a "heavy" accent, and I think that's just because then it would've started affecting Rial's performance. I think she was definitely sassy and foul-mouthed though.
>>
>>139184449

It was good except for the stupid fucking ending. Hatchin becomes a coal burner, cycle repeats all over again.
>>
tumblr-tier, like killy kill and hokuto no titan
>>
>>139190773
>This is exactly what turned me off to the dub, when Michiko should have been sassy, foul-mouthed, with a heavy accent.

I don't know, she's pretty foul-mouthed AND sassy in the dub, it feels like they held back on having her TOO sassy or even a heavy accent out of fear of getting shit from blacks and Hispanics, dub-watchers, which is both fucking hilarious and stupid, because Michiko's character is not only a diva, but the loudest aspects of mixed ethnicity. Even then, I doubt there would have been much backlash, especially with how this show didn't see much viewership even with a Toonami run.

The whole subplot about the area where the series takes place being a massive melting pot culturally and racially, was mostly missed with the dub, but I half-expected that going into the dub, because Funi was literally asking for someone to start bitching about racist stereotypes, if they played the dub straight.
>>
Fuck you guys, I liked the ending.

Not surprising, considering it's Funi. They did the same shit with Beck, by just dubbing everything and completely ignoring the 'lost-in-translation' parts of the show.

Greatly enjoyed it. Sad Manglobe went under, but glad they put this out before then. Fantastic coming of age story with a solid ending.
>>
It sort of loss steam due to lack of focus. About the point where the drug lord or whatever has Mitchiko playing tug of war or whatever off the edge of the building while Hatchin is hanging out with some crossdresser I began wondering "what the fuck is this show even about?"

The show had me pretty hooked in the beginning but as it went on I just wasn't feeling it.

A live-action film set primarily in Brazilian slum. It received widespread domestic and international acclaim upon release.

And she still became competent enough as a single mother to not only pinpoint exactly where to meet Michiko through a series of vague clues but was kind enough unlike Michiko to actually get people to help her along the way.
>>
For some reason my brain keeps associating it with Darker than Black. I often come to think of one whenever the other is brought up. Might be because the respective casts seem fairly multi-ethnic and becayse both shows were made in the latter half of the 00's.

I've only seen the dub, and I don't really remember there being anything about that at all. Like, a few mentions here and there but nothing other than a moment or two in a few episodes. What am I missing?

It helps to be at least passingly familiar with how diverse Brazil is, even if the show is technically not set there.

GOAT ending. A happy ending that doesn't wrap everything up in a bow and give it to you on a silver platter. Her dad was a piece of shit, no surprises there. A prince charming didn't sweep in and give her the life she "deserved". Whoopti -fucking-doo. Hatchin makes her own happiness.

The ending was kinda nice. The best part was how Hatchin wanted the three of them to travel together as a family, and that was what she got except it was with her son instead of her dad. Hatchin riding in the same truck that was in the first episode was also a nice touch.

>Satoshi's death

For how badass he was, to see it go down like that really drove home what kind of show this actually was.
>>
Remember getting wet eyes on two occasions. First was when Michiko dreamed about her and Hatchin waiting on a train together, both of them in summer dresses. Their easy conversation with each other and the little bit of body language really makes the scene almost too sweet to bear when you know it's too good to be true.

Second time was at the very end. Seeing Hatchin make ends meet and doing so with a smile felt nice even if it was bittersweet. But seeing her get so ecstatic and rush to meet Michiko, that put a palpable feeling in me.

Loved the show, obviously. It had more than a few flaws, but it's stuck with me for a long time now and I feel no regrets about getting on the ride.
